Do you remember the Coffee Shop located in the curves of Hwy. 276 along Mill Hill? Have you seen photographs of the Hume Hotel also known as the old Rock Hotel located near the crossroads of Island Ford Road and Hwy 276? Do you know the story behind Hainty Branch? These landmarks and others will be discussed as the route of the Johnstone Turnpike from Connestee into Brevard is shared at the Cedar Mountain Community Center on Monday, June 11th. Doug Pace, Patty Stahl and Charles Burden will present this final section of the old road using maps, newspaper articles and photographs.
Each month at our potlucks, we continue to collect Cans for the Community for area food banks. Please bring canned goods and non-perishable foods to help those in need. Thank you.

SOLOMON JONES FAMILY REUNION
The annual Janie and Solomon Jones family reunion will be held at noon, Sat June 30 at our Happy Place. Anyone is welcome especially kinfolks we may not have seen in a while. We will have the usual covered dishes from our wonderful cooks. Good fellowship, food, conversation and fun. There are lots of babies now that Melody Stinson Jenkins’s family has increased and I am in love with each one. We have Luca, Jack, Steve aka “little coach” like his dad, Josh, who is going to be coaching football in Canton GA this year.
GET WELL WISHES
Cindy Greene and Susan Quillman have had a tough time the last few days but are thankfully on the mend.
LAKE FRONT VIEWS
For a while some folks had a lake-front view in what are really corn fields. Water was everywhere! I made a one-day trip to Cherokee NC for the annual gourd festival there, and took my 4-year-old grandson whom I had planned to let enjoy wading in the large Oconaluftee River across from the festival. With promises of wading among the ducks and fishes this part was not to be as the river waters were really high and running very swiftly. Even the ducks stayed out!
Still there was a great time had as they crafted on a few gourds, played kick ball (I watched as 3 others played) and saw many long-time friends from other states only seen during this time of the year.

AROUND THE HOUSE ~ Linda Young
Well the Monsoon finally let up long enough to allow me to briefly work on my moss garden. I took a walk a couple of weeks ago and gathered several trays of pretty moss to transplant. I love moss. It doesn’t have to be mowed and stays green year round. I pull up grass and plant moss in my back yard and at my entry - looks cool too.
