CORN HOLE TOURNAMENT APRIL 1
Transylvania County Parks and Recreation, at 1078 Ecusta Road, Brevard is hosting a Corn Hole Tournament as a fundraiser for the Land of the Waterfalls Silver Arts and Senior Games. This Tournament will take place on Saturday, April 1, 2023, 2:00 P.M. - 5:00 P.M. To sign up: See Brenda at Silvermont or Dale at Parks and Recreation or register online at WWW.Countyrec.Org
This is an intergenerational family fun event for ages 15 and older. We will offer singles and doubles play. The entry fee is $15.00 per person at Transylvania County Parks and Recreation. SHERWOOD FOREST LADIES GOLF LEAGUE
The Sherwood Forest Ladies Golf League starts its new season on April 3. Do you live anywhere in the county? Do you play golf, or are you interested in learning and getting better? Most important, are you looking for a fun way to meet friends, get outdoors, and stay fit? If the answer to any of these questions is YES, then come on out and join the Sherwood Forest Ladies Golf League. We are a ladies 9-hole league playing Monday mornings April through October. Sherwood Forest Golf Course is a par 3 scenic course on Greenville Highway (across from the Cedar Mountain Outpost) where all levels of players are welcome. We also play for fun during the off-season, so come join us during the winter Mondays at 11 a.m. (pending frost delays) and see if this is for you. The traffic here is horrific. Not used that. Unseasonably warm weather (they are having a heat wave in Florida) is nice but we are both are sunburnt. We got sunblock lotion belatedly. It doesn’t normally get this hot in February.
I was able to find my first bridesmaid, Sharon, (1st marriage) a few months ago thanks to social media. She lives near Orlando and invited us to stay on her property for a few days when we came down. She runs an over 50 mobile home park and keeps two spaces open for visitors. We had a great view of the lake and she and her daughter took us on a boat ride around the lakes before we left. We hadn’t seen each other in 55 years. It was great seeing her again and we talked at length about old times in Chicago. We had worked together for the telephone company.
We took a side trip to Wild Bill’s Swamp Boat ride near Inverness, Fl. It’s been 10 years since I’ve been there. On the way to Wild Bill’s, we came to the mother of all backups. The southbound lane of the Florida Turnpike was blocked by two semi-trucks that completely blocked the southbound lane. We were on the northbound lane but looky-loos had the traffic backed up for miles. The accident involved two semis (not sure if the ones blocking the road were involved) and 4 cars. 2 people were killed. A white car was slammed up against the rail with the driver’s door open. A body with an orange tarp covering it was lying on the front seat. We couldn’t help but imagine that that could have been us when that car hit us. It took ½ hour just to get past it. Fortunately, we had added an extra ½ hour for delays when we made our reservation.
Luckily, we got to Wild Bill’s 10 minutes earlier than we needed to. The swamp boat ride was a hoot. I had a bit of a struggle with an alligator there but I won. Just kidding - fake alligator.
