WELCOME NEW NEIGHBORS

We wanted to introduce ourselves. We are the Kaempfer’s and we just moved to Cedar Mountain. My name is Kirt, my wife’s name is Cathy and our daughter’s name is Lane. We have four Australian Shepherds, Violet, Mellie, D’Artagnan, and Kerian. Two cats Coconut and MIA.

CHRISTMAS CANTATA SCHEDULED

The choir of Rocky Hill Baptist Church is practicing this year's Christmas cantata, under the direction of choir leader Lenoir Bishop, and is going very well. The date the cantata will be performed to the public is December 20th. This cantata will be a blessing to all who hear it. BLOOD DRIVE

The next blood drive will be on December 19th. Blood drives are held between 8:30a and 12:30p at the Cedar Mountains Fire Dept. Those whose lives have been saved by your donations thank you.

MEALS ON WHEELS

Meals on Wheels of Brevard is currently surveying the need for lunch-time weekday meal deliveries in the Cedar Mountain community. If you, or someone you know, might be interested, please contact Meals on Wheels via email at sharynmowbrevard@gmail.com by December 15, 2020, or visit their web site at: www.mealsonwheelsbrevard.org

Meals on Wheels of Brevard has been delivering meals since 1978. All meals are prepared at the Transylvania Regional Hospital under the supervision of a registered dietitian. Meals are low in fat & sodium and satisfy 1/3 of the daily nutritional requirements, and meet standards for cardiac & diabetic nutrition.

Fees are arranged on a sliding scale; inability to pay will not disqualify anyone from receiving meals.

Please contact Meals on Wheels if you are interested in receiving these lunches, or if you would like to volunteer to help.

STUDIO276 CHRISTMAS MARKET

Studio276 in Cedar Mountain is presenting a Christmas Market on December 12th from 11 - 2pm. Some of the participating businesses will be Dog Hair Designs, home décor, Sonne Studios, jewelry/watches, Faith Farm Designs, an arts and crafts studio, Hiker & the Hound, an outdoor equipment Store, and Cedar Mtn Moonshine, founded by Wes Dearbaugh, aka Papa Moonshine. Other Cedar Mtn businesses and organizations are getting into the spirit too! There will be booths full of holiday goodies and you and your family can have your pictures taken with the Appalachian Santa.

Our beautiful new pavilion has picnic tables for your enjoyment. It’s a great spot to sit and watch Tennis, basketball, or Pickleball players on the sports court as well.

CHRISTINE'S CORNER by Christine Pace

My muscles are growing! At least that's why I think my scale is reading a tiny bit heavier now. I am still going to exercise class twice a week, and am excited to see several others looking so good! But still, I think I need to go back to counting the "points" of what I eat like I did when attending Weight Watchers. I have only myself to be accountable for. Here I go!

One change these past few months is that I have been indoors so much more; not just because of Covid-19 but also because I started a project to see how much I could get done once I started creating my favorite art: Christmas Santas. I started a new project this year with my mini gourds and jewelry gourds. I sculpted and painted some Santa necklaces! They can be worn as necklaces or used as a small ornament or package topper. These have dangling legs that are adorable if I do say so myself. I just did!

Hopefully, you can get an idea of what I'm doing by looking at the two photos included. One is a couple of my banana-gourd Santa ornaments, and the other a grouping of my dangly-legged Santa necklaces. New this year are some Christmas Gnomes; the first I've ever done.

I was carving some bird pins and while my carving knife was out I started playing with some small cypress knee "tips" as well. After carving & painting a couple of Santas I was inspired to create three cypress knee "Shepherds". The cypress knee tips are about 5" tall, each. Altogether I have now created fifty (50) Christmas gourds & cypress knees!

In short, this "change" in challenging myself to complete so many Christmas Santas, I ended up sitting for long periods of time, except for my two workout days. My challenge is complete, and ornaments are all sealed and on display in my home, so now I have no excuse for all this sitting. I'm breaking out the dog leashes and will start taking my pups for a walk once or twice a day after all the rain has stopped this week. What have YOU been up to lately? AROUND THE HOUSE by Linda Young

My front yard just got a face life. All those lovely green ferns were an unsightly mess after the frost. I no longer own a lawn mower or a weed whacker so I have to get some help with my yard work. Thanks to Cedar Mountain resident, James Toye, it looks so much better. I do have an electric leaf blower though and need to give it and me some exercise.

I have taken on the challenge of selling a collection of Gund and Boyd’s Teddy Bears for a friend. None have been played with. If interested please let me know.

I am slowly warming up to the idea of repairing my handmade nativity crèche that I created a number of years ago. It is mostly composed of tree bark and moss. A lot of the moss has come off and apparently wasn’t the best material to use. I have to get a move on to finish it up because CHRISTMAS IS COMING!

I don’t discuss politics but I certainly am glad to see all the signs come down and am thankful my mail box is no long filled with political flyers. Whew.
