HOME IN SEE OFF DESTROYED

2 CHILDREN KILLED

Greetings, neighbors and friends

As bad as this picture looks, it can’t show the devastation this family is going through after losing two of their three children.  As word gets out about the Leviskia family’s tragic loss, our See Off Community and the county at large are asking, “How can we help?”  Two of our community members are in direct contact with the family and are helping them (thanks, folks).  They have related the following things we can do to help them.

The family is currently staying at a generous neighbor’s house, but they need to find a more stable situation.  If anyone knows of a reasonable rental for 6 months or so for a family of three, please let me know and I’ll pass the information along to them.

There is a gofundme campaign that is doing well already, but we don’t need to stop at the set goal amount. These folks hope to clear their lot and rebuild a new house on the site and we know how expensive that will be.  In the meantime, they will need to cover the final expenses of their two boys (Josiah and Joshua), replacing household goods, and just covering the costs of everyday life like food, gas, insurance, and more.  Here is a link to the gofundme campaign - www.gofundme.com/f/leviskia-family-needs-our-help-now.

They will be at their damaged home in the coming days to pick through what’s left and try to salvage that part of their lives.  They need large plastic storage totes with lids.  If you have one you can spare, please drop it off at the See Off Community Center.  You can just leave it in the grass between the building and the propane tank and we’ll get it to them.

I’ll put out more information as it develops, so please watch for it.

HUNGER COALITION MOBIL MARKET

The Hunger Coalition Mobil Market will be using the Cedar Mountain Baptist Church 7765 Greenville Hwy, Cedar Mountain for its monthly food distribution on March 20th, 2:30 pm – 4 pm. This location is temporary and we hope to return to the Cedar Mountain Community Center in April.  Fresh produce, meat, eggs, dairy products, and pantry stables are a few of the many items available.  Everything is free and everyone is welcome.  No questions asked.  We ask that you please bring your reusable bags.

TRANSYLVANIA SHARES SHARING CLUB

March 22 @ 4:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Join the Cedar Mountain Canteen Employee-owned cooperative, Transylvania Shares sharing club, a NC non-profit and other members of our community as we share a potluck meal, swap seeds, prepare the Canteen food forest for another season of food production, and enjoy conversations, storytelling and community.

BREAD OF LIFE MEALS

The Bread of Life will be distributing full meal kits to go at Studio 276 / Cedar Mountain Moonshine in Cedar Mountain. The meals are free to anyone, and no questions will be asked.  We have two sizes depending on your needs: small kits for a minimum of 2 individuals and large kits for a minimum of 4 individuals. The meal kits include pre-cooked protein, frozen and canned veggies, and uncooked starch.  If anyone needs a meal, we are here for the community. The next distribution will be April 30 from 2:30 p.m. – 4 p.m. and the first Thursday of each month thereafter.

AROUND THE HOUSE by Linda Packer Young

I answered the call for plastic bins for the Leviskia family whose mobile home was destroyed in See Off and resulted in the death of 2 of their sons.  I took 3 bins to the See Off Community Center.  To do so I had to go by the Leviskia family’s home site.  The mobile home was chopped in half by the fallen tree.  Please help this family by donating - www.gofundme.com/f/leviskia-family-needs-our-help-now.  There has been a generous response but lets do what we can to help.  I did.

Note:  The deadline to submit articles for the Cedar Mountain News is Monday night.  If  your contribution will be later than that you need to let me know.  Email cedarmountainnews@gmail.com with all news.  Photos are welcome and need to be 900kb or more to be used in the paper.
