FALL IS HERE

It is officially time to start transitioning our homes for the cooler months ahead! Beyond just the yard work and decluttering, here are a few other ways to prepare for the season:

Seasonal Preparation Tips:

• Inspect Your Heating System: before the first cold snap, change your furnace filters and consider a professional tune-up to ensure your heating system is running efficiently.

• Seal Drafts: Check windows and doors for gaps. Applying fresh weather-stripping or caulk can significantly lower heating bills once the temperature drops.

• Test Safety Devices: With more time spent indoors and increased use of heaters and fireplaces, it is the perfect time to test your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide alarms.

• Prep the Garden: For those with green thumbs, remember to prune back perennials and plant your spring-flowering bulbs, like tulips and daffodils, before the ground freezes.

REPAIR CAFE WITH TRANSYLVANIA SHARES AND BLUE RIDGE REPAIR CAFE

Bring it to the Repair Cafe hosted by Transylvania Shares and the Cedar Mountain Canteen on September 26 at 4:30 pm. We are prepared to mend clothing, repair household appliances, furniture, tools…

Are you handy and able to repair things? We need you to help us staff our clinic. Everything is free and based on volunteers. Contact the Canteen directly at (828) 820-4677 if you have questions or can help.

The Cedar Mountain Canteen is hosting trivia every Friday at 6:30 pm. Come and enjoy an evening with neighbors.

EQUINOX VS EGG

It is a myth that celestial forces help balance an egg.

Before trying this, the eggs in the carton must have the larger end down. Gravity pulls the yolk downward shifting the center of gravity to the bottom of the egg so give it a little time. You need to select one egg that will stand on its own on a flat surface when the yolk has settled. Bumps on the larger end of the egg will help balance it. You can do this any time of the year. I believe I experienced a miracle. My honey had dropped me off at choir practice last Wednesday afternoon and went to the post office. 15 minutes later he called saying he couldn’t start the car, was sitting in a hot car and that every time he opened the door the alarm went off. Problem was that I had my fob with me but he had forgotten his. Therefore when he stopped the engine it wouldn’t start again. The only thing I could do was walk from Varsity Street to the post office to rescue him. The miracle was that I made it. I walk with a cane due to balance issues and have arthritis in my right hip. I usually can’t walk that far without pain. I made it without a problem, rescued him and called it a day. Just glad he wasn't at Walmart.
