(NOT) AROUND THE HOUSE by Linda Packer Young

On the way home from choir practice last Wednesday we stopped at the Dollar General at See Off Rd. and Greenville Hwy only to find it closed. Another vehicle was just sitting there and the driver came over to tell us he had blown a tire in a large pothole at the new round-a-bout under construction in “downtown” Cedar Mountain. To add to the problem he did not have a spare. (The couple had driven quite a distance from South Carolina hoping to enjoy some fall color here.) There was no cell service at that location. He said a guy had gone to his home for a tire he thought might work, but he never returned. I wrote down the drivers name, license tag number and phone number and we left to find cell service. It was a Wednesday night so we drove up to the Cedar Mountain Baptist Church close by when we saw cars in the lot. The pastor met me and I explained the situation. He called Queens Wrecker service who said they could be at the cars location in about 15 minutes. The Pastor (whose name I’ve forgotten) said that wreckers sometimes if not always have emergency replacement tires. We went back to tell Mr. & Mrs. Findly that a wrecker was on the way. There was another fellow there offering assistance as well so we didn’t wait with them for the wrecker. We don’t know what happened but the car was gone the next day. We hope they made it home OK.

We looked for the pothole on the way through the round-a-bout on the way home and spotted a large patched area that looked freshly filled that could have been the pothole they hit. We didn’t see any other suspicious spots.
