MONTHLY POTLUCK AND SPEAKER: SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 20, 2026
Fellowship begins at 5:30 pm and supper is served at 6:00 pm. There are lots of great cooks on our mountain, and there is always plenty to eat, so plan to come and bring your friends. The presentation will begin by 6:45pm and will wrap up at 7:30pm.
We regularly have folks from Eagle Lake, Slick Rock, Becky Mountain, See Off Mountain, Cedar Mountain, Rich Mountain, and even Brevard! We are glad to see you no matter where you live, so don't be shy. Bring your own plate and utensils so we can reduce our landfill waste. Hope to see you there! Everyone is welcome.
This evening’s presentation is by Kate Renner, Director of Farm Operations at Gaia Herbs. Her presentation will dig into the history of place and evolution of the company with specific detail around their regenerative agricultural practices since landing in the county, what inspired Gaia Herbs® to become the first Regenerative Organic Certified™ farm in the Carolinas and highlight the migrant farm crew that has made farm operations possible over the decades.
Gaia Herbs® is rooted in the history of Transylvania County since 1997, both as one of the largest county employers, and as an agricultural land steward of 300 acres.
Kate Renner began her career at Gaia Herbs® seven years ago, as the Assistant Farm Manager. Today, as Director of Farm Operations, she oversees and participates in all aspects of the farm’s success.
Kate’s path to agriculture was forged from an early age from her parents, “They instilled a work ethic of respect for growing, processing, and consuming home-grown ingredients.”
She also served as an Agroforestry / Environmental Education Peace Corps volunteer in El Salvador, earned her Master’s degree in Nutrition with a focus on Sustainable Agriculture, and has dabbled in various local food, economy, and climate impact careers.

The Cedar Mountain Canteen is hosting a Repair Cafe and will be making a community rag rug on Saturday September 26th at 4:30 pm. Have something that needs repaired? Bring it to the Repair Cafe hosted by Transylvania Shares and the Cedar Mountain Canteen on September 26 at 4:30 pm. We are prepared to mend clothing, repair household appliances, furniture, tools…
Are you handy and able to repair things? We need you to help us staff our clinic. Everything is free and based on volunteers. Contact the Canteen directly if you have questions.
The Cedar Mountain Canteen is hosting trivia every Friday at 6:30 pm. Come and enjoy an evening with neighbors.

This Friday is our 5th wedding anniversary. We will be celebrating in Brevard at the restaurant where we first met. We were lucky to find each other through online dating. We were matched immediately and remain perfectly matched. We have never had a fight either except for a continued debate on how to best run the AC in our Jeep. Ha!
