CEDAR MTN NEWS FOR THURSDAY AUGUST 27, 2015

CEDAR MOUNTAIN COMMUNITY CENTER

Hog Town Squealers

Toes were tapping and hands were clapping as the Hog Town Squealers performed a free concert for a large crowd at the Cedar MountainCommunity Center Tuesday night. Over $800 was collected and will go to benefit Sharing House and S.A.F.E.

Charles Burden led a square dance and we all did the Hokey Pokey (twice) just for fun. A great time was had by all.

Board Meeting

The Cedar Mountain Board of Directors will meet on Thursday Sept. 10th (change from last post) at 4:00pm at the community center.

The community center will host Paul Vis from the Transylvania County Animal Shelter as our program at our potluck/meeting on Monday Sept 14th. Bring a dish to share at our potluck by 6:15pm. The program will commence at about 7pm.

2016 Calendar

As a fundraiser our Community Center has put together a beautiful calendar for 2016. The calendar is composed of photographs from the Cedar Mountain area taken by local photographers and highlights the beauty of our area. Our 2016 Calendar was ‘Made in the USA’ and will be for sale at local merchants,

The calendar will be available at Changes in Altitude, Cedar Mountain Café, Cedar Mountain Canteen, board members and at our next two potlucks. All proceeds benefit the Community Center. Get yours now while they last.

CEDAR MTN FIRE/RESCUE AUXILARY

The CMFR auxiliary will meet at the station on Tuesday Sept 1st at 7pm. New members are needed and interested community residents are urged to attend.

CMFR is an organization of local citizens, firefighters and family members of our firefighters. Our purpose is to promote and support CMFR. In our meetings we consider fundraisers, activities, department needs, food and refreshments at major events, blood drive planning and well as other organizational functions.

HOMECOMING AT ROCKY HILL

The homecoming at Rocky Hill Baptist Church was well attended last Sunday. The choir sang several hymns and there were solos by Beth Owings, Liam Bishop and Branden Owen. Beth sang, Liam played his saxophone and Branden sang and played his guitar.

Wayne and Lenoir Bishop and the Lee sisters also performed. Megan, Liam and Lenoir Bishop sang a trio. All were excellent.

The service ran so long with all the great music that visiting pastor the Rev. Tony Hemphill was jokingly told he had 5 minutes for his sermon.

The following potluck included gobs of delicious homemade goodies. Wayne and Lenoir Bishop also performed during the potluck.

AROUND THE HOUSE

I saw what I now believe was a Bobcat on Solomon Jones Road last week but I’m not sure. The animal did not appear to have a tail, was about 3-4 times bigger than the average house cat and had a reddish brown mangy coat. It was also very skinny. I hit the brakes when I saw it beside the road and my out loud remark was “What the heck is that!?” It walked across the road but seemed sickly and slow and disappeared into a meadow.

Happy birthday to my daughter, Danielle, who celebrated her 46th birthday Monday along with my upright freezer. Both are doing very well.
