CEDAR MOUNTAIN COMMUNITY POTLUCK

Come join your neighbors at the Cedar Mountain Community Center for its September Potluck scheduled for September 14th. Bring your favorite dish to share. Please have your food on the table by 6:15 PM and the meal will begin at 6:30 PM.

Dr. Paul Williams, MD will discuss his book, When All Plans Fail, written to help communities be ready for disasters. Dr. Williams founded International HealthCare Network, linking organizations in humanitarian outreaches and ministry. He has made over 200 medical mission trips including relief efforts in Indonesia, Philippines, Africa and others.

At the two year anniversary marking the Hurricane Helene disaster that significantly impacted our community, Dr. Williams can share his extensive disaster experiences to inspire our community to be better prepared for natural disasters, virulent sicknesses like Covid, and other catastrophic events

Faith Memorial Chapel welcomes folks of all denominations to our services, held on Sundays at 11:00 AM.  We meet only in the summer and have no membership roll, so you won’t feel like a guest.  Each Sunday, we have clergy from different churches that visit us to lead the service and we are blessed to also have great music to accompany the great message! On August 30th, we welcome the Reverend Canon Augusta Anne Anderson. Since arriving to the Episcopal Diocese of Western North Carolina in 1999, Augusta has served as Canon to the Dean of Cathedral of All Souls, Rector of St. Thomas in Burnsville, adjunct clergy at Trinity in Asheville, Assistant Rector at St. James in Black Mountain, and as Rector at Transfiguration in Saluda.  CEDAR MOUNTAIN CANTEEN ICE CREAM PARLOR

The Cedar Mountain Canteen has opened a pop-up hand-dipped ice cream parlor!  It is currently set up in our future music hall while we finish putting together the bakery and ice cream parlor.  It will be open during Canteen hours, for now.

Thank you for an incredible first week!  We have heard many times, “This is the best ice cream I have ever had!”  It is wholesome and delicious.  We are so grateful for the support and love handing joy to so many smiling faces.

Just a fun fact, Butter Pecan is the top selling flavor so far, followed by Strawberry and a close third place is Macchiato coffee.  Top selling vegan flavor is Chocolate. Top selling no sugar added flavor is Peanut Butter Chocolate.  Come check it out.

Kim Coram’s great-grandparents immigrated from Lebanon and opened an ice-cream factory in Jackson, Ohio. It was a highlight of her childhood and being behind an ice-cream counter again brings back so many fond and joyful memories.  She is excited to share that joy!

AROUND THE HOUSE by Linda Packer Young

I don’t think I have told many of you about our “Spook”.  Spook has caused many things to disappear including a fork and a kitchen knife among many other “pranks”.  Strangest thing to date was early Monday morning when our intruder alarm went off while the unit was being recharged on our sun porch.  It had detected “something”.  The alarm went off twice and when I checked, a lamp attached to a night stand had been bent in half.  I’d blame a cat but no cat could bend a lamp pole like that.  (Twilight Zone music here for those who remember that show).
