FREE REIN’S 2015 “MANE EVENT” FALL GALA

Free Rein will hold their annual “Mane Event” Gala on Saturday, October 17th from 6-10 pm at the Overlook Clubhouse at Connestee Falls. Last year’s event was a huge success and a lot of fun for all who attended. More importantly, it made it possible for Free Rein to serve more than 110 people this year - the second most in their 15 year history.

The Moon Shine Babies will not only be playing again... they are donating a house concert to the auction. The French Broad Dinner Cruise will be on the auction block again and Z-Z-Zip (Brevard's #1 Outdoor Activity on Trip Advisor) is providing another great auction item - “Z’s and Zips.” This great experience combines a night for two in their Running Waters Treehouse, Zipline trips for two, and a picnic dinner (provided by the Free Rein Board).

There will be a lot of other great, “can’t go home without it” auction items and Connestee Falls will present their always delectable “small plate buffet.” All-in-all, it’s a great opportunity to have fun and “do good” at the same time.

Make reservations or purchase tickets by contacting the Free Rein Office between 1-5 pm at 828-883-3375. You can also purchase tickets on their website (www.freereincenter.com) using PayPal on the “Donate Now” link. Just be sure to include “2015 Mane Event Gala Tickets for (your names)” in the “add special instructions to recipient block.”

CMBC

Cedar Mountain Baptist Church has resumed Team Kids and Impact on Wednesday night. Pizza or a prepared supper will be served at 5:30-6:30pm followed by Sanctuary time for the children and teens. Then it’s off to classes, game time and more. 7pm. Pastor Steve Cooke leads the adults in Bible study ending around 8:00pm.

BABY SHOWER

A new resident of Cedar Mountain will join us by the end of October. "Aster" Davis will join mom Nikki, dad Colton, and big brother Atlas. While waiting, Rocky Hill Baptist Church threw a baby shower this past Sunday afternoon, and all kinds of cute baby-girl items were shared! There will be two in diapers, as Atlas just turned one in July.

TOUR DE FALLS

Tour De Falls was held this past weekend even though we (finally) had rain. David Brown was here to help, as always, and told Christine Pace that there were about 150 folks enjoying the tour on Saturday.

VISITORS

Judy & Don Patrick in Connestee Falls had a nice visit from Don’s sister, Linda Patrick, and her significant other, Joe Kurish, who live in Michigan. They visited three of our waterfalls: Looking Glass, Connestee, and Judy’s favorite, Eastatoe. After touring downtown Brevard, they celebrated Don’s birthday (Sept. 22) at El Ranchero. Linda and Joe fell in love with our mountains and look forward to visiting again.

ZUMBA

Classes are held at the Cedar Mountain Community Center Monday’s and Wednesday’s 10:30-11:30am. 10/5, 7, 12, 14, 19, 21, 26, and 28 for a total of 8 classes

AROUND THE HOUSE

My vacation - Everything was more expensive than I had budgeted for so I plugged the drain and headed for home. I just have to tell you more about my trip though. Spent two nights in Mystic, Ct. Highlight of the day was having the best Pizza ever at Mystic Pizza. Mystic was the setting for the movie Mystic Pizza made in 1988 and starring, Annabeth Gish, Julia Roberts, and Lili Taylor among others. The movie was playing on a screen while I was munching pizza. If you are ever in Mystic be sure to have Mystic Pizza.

Watching a schooner cruise by through the drawbridge downtown was fun. The bells signaling that the bridge was going up started clanging as soon as I had cleared the drawbridge.

While sightseeing I noticed a ship repair building on the seashore through an open gate. It looked interesting so I slipped inside to take a few photos. The whole area looked photogenic so I proceeded down a sidewalk to take photos of the ships. I realized my error when I came to a sign that said Mystic Seashore. I looked around and saw pink wrist bands on people’s arms. Oops! I had crashed Mystic Seaport. I figured at any moment somebody would see I wasn’t a paid customer and there would be consequences. Nobody paid any attention and I walked around the entire park. However when I decided to leave, the open gate I had come through was locked and I had to go through the regular park exit.

While walking down to a beach I asked a young fellow in bathing trunks how the water was? He snidely remarked “It’s September, what do you think?” He then asked me why I was carrying a stick? (walking stick) I said it was for “whacking offenders”. He said “Humph” and walked away.

More next week.
