CEDAR MOUNTAIN COMMUNITY CENTER - 5:30PM TENNIS DEMO AND PROGRAM

Our potluck and program for Monday Sept 12th will kick off with a tennis demonstration on the Sports/Tennis court at 5:30pm. Joseph Shraeder, Brevard High School senior and state 2A singles champion and Jonathan Walker who ranked # 2 in the South in men’s open singles won’t be playing an actual match but will be demonstrating a few games and maneuvers, etc. Seating is limited so you might want to bring a lawn chair. This 50 year old tennis court was recently completely resurfaced by Mike and Josh Vandergrift and their staff as well as numerous community center volunteers as a gift from the Brevard Health and Racquet Club.

Jason Guidry of the DuPont State Recreational Forest will present a program following our potluck. Please have your dish to share on the serving table by 6:15pm and don’t forget to come hungry!

AROUND THE HOUSE ~Linda Young

I joined the Cedar Mountain Fire Rescue Auxiliary some time ago and it has been work but quite rewarding. More volunteers would be welcome.

Last Friday afternoon the auxiliary along with firefighters and retired members pulled pork from the smoked pork butts prepared in the auxiliary’s new smoker and Saturday we served a lunch of BBQ pork sandwiches, baked beans, tomatoes, desert and beverages. There was a great turn out.

It was not without drama however. Several pans of potato casserole failed to cook and we had to switch to baked beans at the last minute. We don’t know what happened with the potatoes but they wouldn’t even cook in a microwave. Bad potatoes Bad! Thanks to all who participated. The Red Cross Blood drive was at the station at the same time. They reported that 32 pints of blood were donated.
