CMFRD

Blood Drive on April 22nd 8:30 am – 12 pm

EASTER SUNRISE AT PRETTY PLACE

This year's Easter sunrise at Pretty Place (Symmes Chapel) was extraordinarily beautiful. Over 600 folks came to watch a spectacular sun rise following a musical cantata presented by the choir of Rocky Hill Baptist church. Channel 21 Fox News was there and showcased some members of the choir on their news at noon! Camp Greenville once again offered an amazing buffet breakfast to all attendees. Rocky Hill Baptist Church of Cedar Mountain NC has been of service during Easter sunrise at Pretty Place for over 60 years. Rocky Hill's pastor, Dr. Leland Holland brought the message at both the sunrise service and again at Rocky Hill church during the 11am worship service, where the cantata was performed a second time Sunday morning.

27 BISHOPS

The choir leader at Rocky Hill church is Lenoir Bishop, of the popular Singing Bishop Brothers. Lenoir's dad is William "Bill" Bishop and at this year's Easter service Bill had 4 of his 5 children present. Including the children and grandchildren there were 27 members of Bill Bishop's family in attendance, several of whom added their voices to the cantata!

SINGING SUNDAY AT CARRS HILL The Bishop Brothers of Cedar Mountain and the Slick Fisher Boys will be singing at Carr's Hill Baptist Church this Sunday at 5:30pm. You won't want to miss this! Donations are being raised for Carr's Hill's Kentucky missions.

NEW GREAT-GRANDPARENTS! Congratulations to the ever-young-looking Jeanne Hayes, and her husband Don, on the birth of their first great-grandchild, a beautiful little girl named Maze Guilmette. Maze and her parents reside in Texas, so Don & Jeanne will have quite a trip to make to visit the newest member of their loving family. This makes the Hayes' daughter Noel Garcia a first-time grandmother too!

HERE'S THE "SCOOP" There's a new ice cream shop near the entrance to DuPont State Recreational Forest named Kay-K’s Ice Cream. It is located at 3945 Staton Road and is a short 2 miles from the DuPont Forest Visitor Center, going toward Crab Creek Rd.

Manager, Adrienne Casteen, writes that owner Keith King named Kay-K’s Ice Cream shop after his daughter who is called Kay-K. With 24 flavors of Hershey's hand-dipped ice cream they plan on being open 7 days a week, including holidays, from April thru October. Hours now are 11am to 7pm weather permitting, though they may extend these hours as summer gets here. Besides their hand-dipped ice creams they serve milk shakes, sundaes, banana splits, floats and bottled beverages. Come say hello!

SPRING LITTER PICKUP

The road to Pretty Place isn't so pretty sometimes with the amount of litter that accumulates. Some residents of Solomon Jones road have organized a clean up day in conjunction with the NC Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Spring Litter Sweep program. On April 28th, starting at 9 am, citizens will gather at 1900 Solomon Jones Rd with supplies provided by DOT to clean up the road. Afterwards, a luncheon potluck/BBQ will be held to celebrate the work. If you would like to help, contact Sheila/Hank Bayles at sheilabayles1@gmail.com or 828.877.5159 or Kim Coram/John Wiseman at jbwkjc@gmail.com or 828-966-5367 or just show up!

AROUND THE HOUSE

Fireflies in April? Yes indeedy. Couldn’t believe my eyes, but they were out there blinking away. Don’t they usually wait till late June? Kinda like the confused Katydid I found late last fall.

What’s happening with you or in the community? We’d love to hear what’s going on, if you would like to share.

All news for next week has to be received by Monday evening in order to be published in the Thursday edition of the Transylvania Times.
