SHROOM-SHROOM

On Monday July 10th our program will be presented by Greg Carter of Deep Woods Mushrooms in Mills River. Greg is an instructor, grower and distributer of wild mushrooms and can often be seen at the Farmer’s Market in Brevard. Meetings are held the second Monday of each month at the Cedar Mountain Community Center. Please remember to bring non perishable food items for Cans for the Community when you visit the center. A large blue tub is provided for your donation. Items are accepted even if past the “sell by” date. Clint Owings, president, can be reached at (828) 883-9707.

CEDAR MTN FIRE/RESCUE AUXILLARY

The auxiliary has pulled pork BBQ for sale at $8.00 lb. If interested please call 828-862-3342. All proceeds benefit the fire dept.

FREE REIN CENTER

The Free Rein Center is looking for volunteers to help with therapeutic riding classes and other activities; we are a not-for- profit that provides equine assisted therapy for people of all ages with a variety of special needs. Call Mary Stoehr (828)606-3965 to sign up or questions.

TOTAL ECLIPSE AUGUST 21ST

It was reported by a well-known local DJ that Transylvania County is expecting up to 100,000 visitors to our county to view the Total Eclipse on August 21st. I personally know of at least two coming here from Ohio because of it! They are arriving August 19th, which is the last day of this year's Mountain Gourd Gathering. Luckily the teachers who are staying in their cabin for the gourd event will be able to pack up the morning of the 19th so the cabin will be ready that afternoon for the out-of-towners. SYMPATHY First we extend our sympathy to the families of the two young high-schoolers killed in the auto accident this week in Transylvania County - so sad. Sympathy also goes to Faith Bishop (Lenoir's wife) who lost her mom after a long health battle.

PASTOR DAN RAY AT ROCKY HILL SUNDAY

"Laughing With the Reverend" author Pastor Dan Ray is filling in at Rocky Hill Baptist Church this coming Sunday, with worship services beginning at 11:00 am. Everyone is welcome here! Pastor Dan resides in Greer, SC and his wife Martha does too (ahem). She is quite a pianist herself! They filled in at Rocky Hill for almost 3 year's prior to Dr. Leland and his wife Debra moving here from Indiana. Welcome back Pastor Dan & Martha! Safe travels Dr. Leland & Deb as you tend to family matters.

SPOOK IS BACK

1st my bathroom scales disappeared. I’ve searched high and low. Then I was awakened from a nap by the doorbell which rang twice - nobody there. Realizing the doorbell had sounded different I rang it myself. The ring was not the same as I heard. So I rang the doorbell alert I have at my bedside (for when I had my surgery) and it was the same. So my alarm bell at my bedside had been pushed TWICE. This happened once when Kallie walked on it, but TWICE? - Plus NO cat now.

Then my TV remote started fast forwarding a recorded movie all by itself. I would back it up and it would do it again. It kept making this "thunking" sound they do when you are pushing the wrong buttons. I wasn't pushing any buttons. I deleted the “offending” program and the shenanigan’s stopped. I guess Spook didn’t like that movie. NOTE: “Spook” is what I blame when nothing else explains the situation.
