CEDAR MOUNTAIN NEWS FOR THURSDAY 11-16-17

THANKSGIVING FEAST

The Cedar Mountain Community Center has an annual traditional Thanksgiving Feast on the last meeting of the year in November. The word is out and the center was filled to capacity Monday night. We even had to put out an extra table for all the food that was brought in.

The center furnished roast turkeys , fried turkeys and baked ham. With few exceptions there were only scraps left after everyone filled their plates. There was still enough food for seconds though.

We had several visitors who had never been to the center before. The Cedar Mountain Community Center welcomes everyone no matter where you live.

There was a short meeting wherein new board members were elected. They include Suzanne Lawson as president, Clint Owings VP, Linda Young secretary, Hank Bayles Treasurer. New board members are Candy Gray and Kim Coran.

A SOUPER SATURDAY Cook-off is planned for Saturday January 27th. Everyone is invited to bring their favorite crock pot of soup to be shared and voted on for 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes.

Our next potluck and meeting will be Monday April 5th so mark your calendars. We have wonderful programs following our potlucks and welcome any suggestions.

Board meetings are scheduled for January 18th and March 8th 2018.

WNC COMMUNITIES AWARD LUNCHEON

Because of its accomplishments and service to the Cedar Mountain Community the past year the center was designated as a Community of Promise and awarded a $1000 award. Those attending were President Clint Owings, VP Suzanne Lawson, Secretary Linda Young and Board member Deborah Corn.

PASTOR DAN RAY PASSES Pastor Dan A. Ray, 84, of Greer, SC went to be with our Lord early Saturday, Nov. 11th. Serving more than 60 year's as an "impactful" Baptist minister, he filled in at our own Rocky Hill Baptist Church for 3 & 1/2 year's, until we called current pastor Dr. Leland Holland as permanent pastor. Pastor Ray and his lovely and talented wife Martha grew to love our Cedar Mountain area. They spent much time here and at the music center in Brevard.

Pastor Ray's book "Laughing with the Reverend" recalled humorous & inspirational moments from a lifetime of church work; Pastor Ray has shared these stories in person at several Transylvania County churches.

Pastor Dan Ray & Martha had been married 62 years; they had 3 sons and 1 daughter, 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. To read more, leave condolences, or share a memory, please go to www.thewoodmortuary.com Services were held Monday at the Greer First Baptist Church in Greer, SC. A van load from Rocky Hill church attended. Prayers of comfort please for Martha Ray and their family and close friends. Pastor Dan Ray, you will be missed!

AROUND THE HOUSE

I wish everyone a wonderful and loving Thanksgiving Day. I have been invited to a friend’s home for which I am thankful.

Since I have no family here I checked to see where there might be a free Thanksgiving dinner for those who might not have family. See above for two that I found.

What’s happening with you or in the community? We’d love to hear what’s going on, if you would like to share. Please email your news to cedarmountainnews@gmail.com by 6 pm on Sunday this week.
