ST PATRICK’S DAY

March 17th is also St. Patrick's Day, a big celebration for those of Irish descent. Don’t forget the “wearing of the green”. The origins of the wearing of green clothing in the U.S. on St. Patrick’s Day stems back to the 19th century when Irish immigrants came to America looking for a better life and more job opportunities. They started wearing green and carrying Irish flags along with American flags as a point of pride for their home country. It is also time for corn beef and cabbage dinners a favorite St Pat’s day meal although it’s not traditional in Ireland.

MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR JUDY

A memorial service for Judy Allison Redden will be held this Saturday March 10th at the Carr's Hill Baptist Church. Family will receive friends from 2 - 3 pm and the service will start right after (3:00 pm). Judy, age 59, fought a lengthy battle with cancer and will be sorely missed. She died in Tennessee with her whole family surrounding her.

Judy was the youngest daughter of Heath Allison, who also passed away just last year,

and Mary Lou Allison of Pisgah Forest. She was a beautiful, active girl growing up and loved riding her Cousin Joe Earl Pace's horses. Judy moved to Tennessee with her adoring husband and raised a family which included horses. God bless the Allison & Redden families and all who knew Judy.

WOMEN'S CONFERENCE MARCH 17TH The Transylvania Baptist Association's WMMU Women's Conference will be held on Saturday March 17th beginning at 9:00 AM and going until noon. This year's conference will be held at the Cedar Mountain Baptist Church. Women of all denominations are invited to attend. Pre-registration is not necessary but would be helpful. You may reach the TBA Baptist Center by calling (828) 877-3203.

MARCH CELEBRATIONS: Sweet Jim Sketo gained a year on March 2nd, and probably wrote a poem about it. Granddaughter of Joe Earl Pace, Josie Pace, got a year older and more beautiful on March 3rd! Donna Stout turned 80 on March 5th; hard to believe! And Christine Pace's handsome son-in-law Jimmy Harris (owner of Harris ACE Hardware) will gain a year on the 8th.

Kathy Sketo (Jim Sketo's sweet wife) will grow older on March 15th. Fred Rich, with more talent than most realize, will enjoy another birthday on March 16th. Jentsen Rackley (grandson of Rev. L. Alton Taylor, deceased) is gaining a year on the 17th.

Dear, much-missed friend-to-all Nancy Mayer will be celebrating in her new home in Aiken, SC on March 20th. Carol Ableman, always posting beautiful pictures of colorful flowers, will bloom herself on March 24th. And finally Christine's sweeter-than-sweet grandson Levi Emmanuel Jones will turn a big 9 year's old on March 26th. Happy birthday to all!

Only one anniversary known in this month, and that is of Michael & Becky West, who will celebrate another glorious year of wedded bliss on March 11th. Congratulations and Best Wishes for many more!

AROUND THE HOUSE

As a victim of hearing loss, I highly recommend the Brevard HLAA (see above article). The speakers are extremely knowledgeable and some speak from their own experiences. Technology has increased dramatically making it possible for individuals who don’t benefit adequately from hearing aids to hear better or in some cases be able to hear for the first time. It is also interesting and informative to hear stories and “testimonials” from the audience. You realize you are not alone.

I personally have been bullied for my hearing deficit. Hearing that others have experienced that also indicates that the public needs to better understand hearing loss and how to communicate and empathize with those who have it.

If you, a family member, or friends have hearing loss or associate with someone who has this “invisible handicap” you will benefit from attending these meetings.

What’s happening with you or in the community? We’d love to hear what’s going on, if you would like to share. Please email your news to cedarmountainnews@gmail.com by 6 pm on Monday next week. Photos are welcome as well.
