There will be a blood Drive on Saturday, June 22 from 8:30a – 1:30p at the fire station. We had a tremendous turnout for the last blood drive. A big THANK YOU to all donors. How about we do that again? There is always a need for blood - now more than ever. Future blood drive dates are Aug 22nd, Oct 24th, and Dec 19th.
2020 CENSUS
Perhaps you have noticed the sign at the Cedar Mountain Community Center reminding ALL of us to complete the 2020 census form. Perhaps you are like me saying I ALREADY did this, why am I getting another form/request. All I can ask is please have patience and recognize that the completion of this census (every ten years) is an enormous task; and is required by LAW. Census workers are working daily to assist in collecting this information.
Beware of scams. As always, we must be vigilant and aware that there are unscrupulous individuals who are trying to collect information from you that can be used for their financial gain and your financial loss. The census form or census workers will NEVER ask for your social security number. The form or worker will NOT ask for donations, or political affiliation. And, of course, your bank/credit card information should never be disclosed. If you are asked for this, it is a scam
You may ask “Why is it so important that I provide this information to the federal government?” Basically it is because it BENEFITS US and OUR COMMUNITY and every one of us on a personal level! This information is used for planning our futures, our children’s’ futures, and even our grand children’s’ futures. The following is a brief and incomplete list of programs impacted by our census: Head start, educational grants (like Pell), housing assistance, employment training, vocational rehabilitation, prevention of child abuse, prevention and treatment of substance abuse, support of firefighters, prevention/fighting of forest fires ,restoration of wildlife, and health care including Medicare, and Medicaid. At the higher level it provides for the establishment of legislative districts for voting, highway planning and construction, and grants for public transit.
Please help! Go on line and complete the census form or fill out the paper copy that was left in your mailbox or hanging on your door. No postage is required for the paper form. Complete information is needed/required for every home, summer and winter residence. Our community needs your assistance and you will thank yourself for it in the years to come.
CONNESTEE ART LEAGUE
Connestee Art League’s annual Art in the Park will be held on Saturday, June 27th, 2020 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This is our 16th annual summer festival. The festival will again be held on the property of the Brevard Elementary School. Art in the Park benefits arts programs for children and adults in the Brevard Community. It is one of the League's annual fundraisers.
We are expecting about 40 local artists this year, some of them new to this event. Come on down and enjoy the day and help us support the arts!
Mama Bear’s food truck will be on site again this year. All are invited to come and enjoy the day, shop for original artistic creations, taste some great food and join in the fun. We look forward to seeing all of you there! In case of rain, the event will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2019.
This event is contingent upon whatever Covid-19 restrictions are in place at the time.
SHERWOOD FOREST FRIENDS
Sherwood Forest Friends has cancelled our programs for June and July. We are still holding out hope for August 22nd’s Michael Reno Harrell to entertain, but we will make a decision closer to that time. Please enjoy the information we have posted to our website, www.sherwoodforestfriends.org.

CREEKSIDE MARKET HAPPENINGS "Live after 5" is an exciting time at the Creekside Market here in Cedar Mountain, every summer through early fall. On Saturday evening’s, folks in the neighborhood, along with friends & family, gather under umbrellas and tents on the side lawn of Creekside Market to listen to "live" performances from local groups and/or soloists. The music starts at 6:00 pm. Refreshments are available during this event inside the 'market. Everyone is welcome! Bring your lawn chairs and a cooler if you wish. "NO" VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL Due to the epidemic, there will be no "Vacation Bible School" at Rocky Hill Baptist Church, or any others in the county that I know of, this year. Being cautious has contributed greatly to our low infection rate in Cedar Mountain and all of Transylvania County. DUE TO COVID-19 What would have been the 10th annual "Mountain Gourd Gathering" held at the Family Life Center has also been canceled. Hopefully, all will be back to normal in 2021.
JUNE CELEBRATIONS BIRTHDAYS:
Aubrey Lawson got a year older on June 5th(her parents are Robert & Suzanne Lawson); Marshall Duke gains a year on the 11th; New-graduate Evie Rackley gets a year older on June 14th; Doug Pace on June 22nd, and (Rocky Hill's church choir leader) Lenoir Bishop is getting five dollars for his birthday on June 23rd. CHRISTINE'S CORNER by Christine Pace As the host of the annual Mountain Gourd Gathering, I am sad that we will not be visited by gourd artists from all over the southeast this year. Always held the 2nd week in August, it is hoped we will be together again next year, and you are welcome too! After Sunday school this past Sunday I visited several homes on Solomon Jones Road and Seldon Emerson Road, including the home of the Cedar Mountain News columnist Linda Young; her cats Buddy & Nozee were happy to have someone else pet them for a change! I listened to preaching by Dr. Leland Holland on 87.9FM radio in my car as far as it would come in clear. This is how I learned about the VBS being canceled.
Anyone living within 2 miles of Rocky Hill Baptist Church should be able to listen to Pastor Leland's preaching at 11am on Sunday mornings, on station 87.9FM. Heading to Greenville via Hwy. 276 (Greenville Hwy.)Sunday the parking lot at Caesar’s Head State Park was already closed as it was at "capacity" by noon. When I got out of my vehicle in Greenville it was like stepping into an oven; it was 93 degrees! When my meeting was through, at around 2:45pm, I headed anxiously back "up the mountain" to cooler temps. Driving by Caesar's Head again around 3:30p the lot was still closed due to capacity! But the temperature had dropped to a comfortable 83 degrees.

Things are getting little Ho Hum around the house. I’ll be glad when I can get back to choir practice and other social activities. I don’t see that happening soon though.
I still have projects to do such as finishing the painting on my deck and front porch, but just don’t seem to have the motivation. It’s not like I have company coming soon and need everything to be spiffy. So my motto - there is always mañana. I did talk to my bff in Washington, Iowa this week. She is hoping to visit in July so I guess I’d better get with it.
