If you haven't heard..... Our Cedar Mountain Heroes were at it again last Tuesday night assisting with the search of 3 children and 1 adult. Our volunteer fire department, better known as CMFR, Cedar Mountain Fire Rescue, played a significant role in the initial search along with the Greenville County Sheriff's Department searching the Raven Cliff Falls/Caesars Head Mountain area after a 12 year old called 911.Our department responded along with 8 local responders who left their jobs and their families to be part of teams searching trails till the wee hours of Wednesday morning. When the first light of Wednesday morning arrived, many other agencies joined with helicopters, trained dogs, and mountain trail experts. On Wednesday afternoon the lost folk were found cold, hungry and exhausted. They were helicopter lifted to safety. They are doing fine now after spending over 24 hours in the forest. God bless them because that had to be so scary. If you are interested in committing to serve your community, CMFR welcomes you to join our team. Responders train at the station every Thursday night at 7pm. Every week is different training, on local trails for search and rescue, breathing apparatus, how to work motor vehicle accidents, emergency medical calls, or just plain public service calls and much more. Every week is full of new and exciting knowledge. Our Auxiliary is welcoming new members also. Come and join the team that fundraises for new equipment and feeds our responders during extended emergencies. Come and commit to keeping Cedar Mountain Fire and Rescue up to date with the newest equipment and technology to keep our community safe. Auxiliary meetings are held the first Tuesday of each month at 6pm at the fire department....Hey y'all, Come join our team. We urge you to write to our responders to express your thanks for their commitment and courage and continued support via this email ....... contact@cmfr.org
MCGAHA CHAPEL CHRISTMAS CAROLING By Patty Stahl Please join us as we bring in the Christmas season at the 153- year- old McGaha Chapel on Sunday, December 7th at 2:30. The beautiful old building will be decorated once again with our mountain greenery and a live tree as we sing the old yuletide carols. At 3:15 we will catch a shuttle ride or walk to the Robin Hood Center across Hwy. 276 in Sherwood Forest. Hot cider and coffee will await us there along with all sorts of homemade goodies. Shuttles to the Chapel will begin at 1:45 in the Robin Hood Center parking lot. Signs indicating parking and shuttle location will be posted on Hwy 276. Dress warmly as there is no heat in the Chapel. This event is sponsored by the Transylvania County Historical Society, the Friends of Sherwood Forest, and the Cedar Mountain Community.
In the Transylvania Times edition of July 26, 1934, the Reverend J. N. Pressley of Skyland announced that he would preach at the Little River Methodist Chapel near Cedar Mountain the next Sunday morning at 11 o’clock. The 89-year-old minister shared that he “organized the Methodist chapel in 1870, this being one of his first charges.” He invited the public and especially his older friends in Cedar Mountain.
The church is today known as the McGaha Chapel and 1872 is given as the year in which it was organized. In the early years, Reverend Pressley often officiated at weddings, funerals and regular services at the Chapel.

AROUND THE HOUSE by Linda Packer Young
We had our rotting handicap ramp removed this week. The plan includes an expansion of the landing into a small deck. The crew was here this morning, completely removed the old one, and was able to make substantial l progress toward completion. This crew works fast and hard. It’s amazing just watching them.
They will finish tomorrow. Come Spring the disintegrating pavers, serving as a pathway to the house, will be replaced with a hard surface. We can’t wait for it to be finished.
