2021 CEDARMOUNTAIN COMMUNITY CALENDARS

The 2021 Cedar Mountain Historical calendars are ready and will be sold at the drive-through barbecue fundraiser on Saturday for a donation of $15 each. All proceeds will go toward the support of the Cedar Mountain Community Center. The calendars are also available at several Cedar Mountain businesses. Historical photographs of the Cedar Mountain and Buck Forest areas are featured. Photos include the ladies tent site on the 1905 Rivers family trip from Cedar Mountain to Toxaway, a view of Pretty Place before the Chapel was built and a horse and buggy fording Little River just before the river plunges over High Falls. The calendars are also available at several Cedar Mountain businesses.

We would like to thank the Rowell Bosse North Carolina Room of the Transylvania County Library and the families of Cedar Mountain for sharing these wonderful memories of Cedar Mountain.

BLOOD DRIVE

A total of 43 donations were made last Saturday at CMFRD. This included doubles or Power Red Cell donation. A Power Red donation allows you to safely donate two units of red blood cells during one donation. This type of donation separates your red blood cells from the other blood components, and then safely and comfortably returns your plasma and platelets to you. Ramona Hayes of Cedar Mountain made her first Power Red donation. Dan Thompson of Connestee Falls was a 3rd time donor to our location. Thanks everyone for a great turnout.

The next blood drive will be in November.

INTERNET PROBLEMS?

Comporium has upgraded their hardware over the last couple of years. One of the simplest ways to improve your signal is to make sure you have a modem capable of receiving the signal from Comporium’s new servers. If your modem is more than 8 months old take it to Comporium. They have a table set up at their front door where you can drop it off and get a new one.

AROUND THE HOUSE by Linda Young

I was not able to wear my hearing aids, glasses and mask at the same time at the blood drive Saturday - just too much “stuff” trying to hang out on my ears and either the hearing aids or mask kept falling off. So I apparently put them in my pocket. When I got home they were missing. Auxiliary member Terie Girolamo and I went through the trash at the FD twice and the FD went through it a 3rd time. When I got home again I tried to remember what I had done and where I had been. Then I remembered that on my way home I had stopped by the community center to check on the progress of our new Pavilion. Back in the car again I went back to the community center and searched everywhere I had walked. Then I went home and made up posters for lost hearing aids and took them to post at the fire station and the center. The folks who had rented the center the night before had come to clean up so I asked them to keep an eye out for my hearing aids. It wasn’t an hour later when they called and said they had found the hearing aids under the picnic table. Thanks so much to everyone who made the effort to help find them. Miracles do happen.
