Stephanie Pettee, a self-taught artist, has immersed herself in the world of Mandela art for over a decade. Behold the Mandela, not merely a design but a passage to contemplative serenity. GREETINGS, NEIGHBORS AND FRIENDS by Doug Poad

The county is required by law to reappraise all property in the county at east every 8 years.  You have probably received your property tax reappraisal notice.  This is tangible proof that home values in our county have gone up… a LOT.  I wanted to share this info graphic that the county posted on Facebook that explains how this valuation is converted to our individual tax bills.  There is a lot more information about this and the appeal process on the county tax administration office’s web pages here (www.transylvaniacounty.org/departments/tax-administration).

CHURCH NEWS

Hope Church at See Off meets every Sunday night at 6 pm. We invite you to come for a relaxed time of worship, prayer and Bible study. More events will be planned in the spring.

No new updates on repairs to Becky Mountain Road at this time, but I’m following it with NCDOT so you all don’t have to.  The contract calls for a completion date of March 2026.  I’ll be asking for any updates again in early March, so stand by for more information when I get it.

CEDAR MOUNTAIN CANTEEN

AFRO-LATIN JAZZ WORKSHOP AND PERFORMANCE

On Saturday, March 8th, the Cedar Mountain Canteen is hosting Grupo los Santos, a NYC-based funky, rootsy, weirdly eclectic jam-band which pulls equally from the traditions of jazz, rock, funk, Afro-Cuban, Afro-Brazilian, and whatever else they come across.  A free workshop will be conducted by the group from 4 - 5:30 pm.  All musicians and tap dancers are welcome.  At 6:30 pm the group will perform for the public.  All are welcome and the show is free (it is being sponsored by members of our community.)  An RSVP is appreciated if you would like to attend the workshop and/or performance.  Email cedarmountaincanteenmusic@gmail.com.  Thank you!  Kim Coram

TRANSYLVANIA SHARES SHARING CLUB

March 22 @ 4:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Join the Cedar Mountain Canteen Employee-owned cooperative, Transylvania Shares sharing club, a NC non-profit and other members of our community as we share a potluck meal, swap seeds, prepare the Canteen food forest for another season of food production, and enjoy conversations, storytelling and community.

We learned a lot from Hurricane Helene, and we are putting our lessons into action in support of a stronger community.  Please bring food to share if you are able.  If not, we would love to feed you.  This is a zero-waste event, and we ask that you bring your own reusable place setting.  Please bring nothing disposable!  Transylvania Shares will have some of its inventory present if you need to borrow a place setting.  Dish washing and compost facilities are available.

Everyone is welcome!  We love diversity and celebrate the strength it brings.

Let us know if you would like to help!  Start gathering your seeds, trees, and plants to share.

We look forward to enjoying time together in solidarity.
