SEE OFF COMMUNITY CENTER MAY POTLUCK
The May community potluck will be Sunday, May 17. Fellowship begins at 5:30 pm and supper is served at 6:00 pm. There are lots of great cooks on our mountain, and there is always plenty to eat so plan to come and bring your friends. We regularly have folks from Eagle Lake, Slick Rock, Becky Mountain, See Off Mountain, Cedar Mountain, and Rich Mountain, and we are glad to see you no matter where you live, so don't be shy. Bring your own plate and utensils so we can reduce our landfill waste. Hope to see you there!
This evening's guest speaker will be Heath Cowart. In the 4th generation of his family who's made See Off Mountain home, Heath is a professional photographer and videographer who has a great appreciation for history. Scenes from the Mountain: 1898–1950, is a selection of family photographs taken on and around See Off Mountain between 1898 and 1950. Preserved over time by a number of family photographers (some pro and some amateur), these images offer a glimpse into everyday life, the landscape, and the community during those years. One particularly good find was a few photos of "Uncle Joe" Carson. Around 1870, Carson took over the Buck Forest hotel and property, running it for many years. The Buck Forest area is a part of DuPont State Forest now. If you were following See Off Community Center on FB or Instagram this past year, you've seen some of his aerial video work showing the repairs of the Becky Mountain Road landslide. His business is Real Digital Productions which he operates with his wife, Melinda Hendershott.

FUNDRAISER FOR DEB HINCEWIC OF CONNESTEE FALLS
Submitted by Jenny Boyd
Many in Cedar Mountain and beyond have been touched personally by cancer. One of our community members, Deb Hincewic is fighting back. This is her story: In November, after two weeks of symptoms, she had a life-changing diagnosis: non-Hodgkin's Mantle Cell Lymphoma. As a lifelong caregiver, Deb never imagined she would be the patient. Deb was hiking, playing Pickleball, Mah Jongg, golfing and living a full, active life until cancer threw her a curveball. There are others in our community fighting their own personal battles with cancer which is why I am participating in a 3 day bike tour to raise money for Blood Cancer United, formerly known as the Leukemia and Lymphoma Foundation. Today, thanks to innovative treatments and services our friends afflicted have real hope. Research and new therapies are changing lives. .
Deb is very active in Cedar Mountain and has many close ties to the CM community. She plays golf with the ladies at Sherwood Forest. She played Mah Jongg at the community center. She and her husband Mike were active volunteers in the Cedar Mountain community helping in the clean up efforts after Helene. They also regularly attend the music events at the Canteen and the Distillery.
The financial burden on those with cancer is real—travel expenses, insurance premiums, and exorbitant medication costs. Many families need help just to stay in the fight. Please donate any amount you can to help in this fight. Click on the link below to donate today. On behalf of blood cancer patients everywhere I thank you for your support!

AROUND THE HOUSE by Linda Packer Young
Things are looking so much better around the house. Our crumbling entryway pavers were replaced and the workers did a beautiful job. It is so much safer too. Now I will have to spruce up the bare surrounding area with some plantings. I found some at Lowes and Walmart that should dress it up nicely. I found several half dead plants on sale that I think I can rescue. I love challenges like that. The indoor plants are going out soon too. I have a geranium that is almost 3 years old that I have coaxed into living through the winter with grow lights. It will be happy to go outside.
