CEDAR MOUNTAIN NEWS FOR 8-6-26

BLOOD DRIVE

Give the gift of life. A blood drive is scheduled for Saturday, Aug 8, 2026 from 8:30 am 12:30 pm at the Cedar Mountain Fire Rescue station. Please mark your calendars. You are needed. Please call the Red Cross at 1-800-733-2767 for appointment

FAITH MEMORIAL CHAPEL welcomes folks of all denominations to our services, held on Sundays at 11:00 AM. We meet only in the summer and have no membership roll, so you won't feel like a guest. Each Sunday, we have clergy from different churches that visit us to lead the service and we are blessed to also have great music to accompany the great message!

On August 9th, we welcome the Rev. Lonnie Pittman. Lonnie serves as Senior Pastor of Buncombe Street Methodist Church in Greenville, SC. In July of 2025, he came to Buncombe Street from North Carolina, where he served Methodist churches for fifteen years.

Music this Sunday will be provided by Myra Cordell. Myra, international opera singer, has performed in opera houses, concert halls and theaters throughout the world. Some of her many opera roles include Violetta (La Traviata,) Cio-cio san (Madam Butterfly,) Mimi (La Boheme,) La Contessa (Le Nozze di Figaro,) Anna (Anna Bolena,) Marguerite (Faust,) Lucia (Lucia di Lammermoor,) and Desdemona (Otello.)

ROCKY HILL BAPTIST CHURCH

Appreciation Concert

Sunday August 9th at 6 pm

Fresh from his musical ministry mission in Peru, Joe Wheeler will be coming to Rocky Hill Baptist Church to thank members, families and friends for their Love Offering toward his mission. Joe proposes to combine especially paired music, Bible verses, vocals and accounts of his adventures in Peru. Since he returns to U of SC about a week or so after his return from Peru, and he is anxious to express his gratitude before going back to school, he will be coming to Cedar Mountain only a day after returning to the states. Please join us to hear beautiful inspiring music and first hand anecdotes of his trip.

CEDAR MOUNTAIN COMMUNITY CENTER

Come join your neighbors at the August Potluck scheduled for August 10th. Bring your favorite summer dish to share. Please have your food on the table by 6:15 PM and the meal will begin at 6:30 PM.

The program will be focused on creating various focus groups within the community by connecting those with shared skills, talents, and interests. Several community residents will share information and ideas about special interests they have and what coming together could mean. Those interested in music, gardening, road beautification, canning/food preparation and others can begin to get together to share knowledge and learn new skills. Each group will decide how it will function and when it meets. This will be an opportunity for you to join with your neighbors to learn new things, share skill sets (playing a musical instrument), and strengthen community connections. Come find out who may share your interests!

GRIEF SHARE

Our next Grief Share grief support group at Cedar Mountain Baptist Church begins Tuesday, August 25 at 6:00 pm. AROUND THE HOUSE by Linda Packer Young

I inherited (by marriage) a beautiful dining room table and 6 chairs that were put in storage.

The chairs and table survived flooding of the storage unit from Hurricane Helene but the chairs needed to be refinished. We finally accomplished that last week. Now I am converting my beloved sunroom into a dining room. The room isn't large enough to accommodate everything that's in it with a dining room set so I have had to make some hard decisions.

We went on several long road trips in our motorhome the last 4 years and that has taught me one thing. I really don't need everything I have and I can survive in a 30ft space. People who have lost their homes to Mother Nature's wrath learned this the hard way. I am considering this as I have to let some things go. At least I have a choice.
