A huge thank you goes to everyone who donated blood at the Cedar Mountain Fire/Rescue blood drive last Saturday. There were 37 donors! Special appreciation goes to the Cedar Mountain Cafe, the Auxiliary, and the CMFR team for your support. You’re all helping save lives in our community!

FAITH MEMORIAL CHAPEL welcomes folks of all denominations to our services, held on Sundays at 11:00 AM.  We meet only in the summer and have no membership roll, so you won’t feel like a guest.  Each Sunday, we have clergy from different churches that visit us to lead the service and we are blessed to also have great music to accompany the great message! On August 16th, we welcome the Rev. Dr. Keith Thompson. Keith is Senior Pastor of Brevard-Davidson River Presbyterian Church in Brevard, North Carolina. He has also served pastorates in Texas and eastern North Carolina.Music this Sunday will be provided by Olivia Hoyt. Olivia is currently in Brevard to study music education with a minor in theatre. She was raised in Iowa where she started performing dance at the age of 3, with vocal music and theatre performances to follow starting in elementary school.

SEEOFF MONTHLY POTLUCK

Sunday August 16, 2026

HOSTS ARE NEEDED for this potluck, no experience required! They help set up the tables and welcome folks coming in the door and then help clean up when it’s over. Lesin Dippold will be glad to tell you more, call her at (804) 519-1898. It’s pretty easy; many folks chip in to help.

Fellowship begins at 5:30 pm and supper is served at 6:00 pm. There are lots of great cooks on our mountain, and there is always plenty to eat, so plan to come and bring your friends. The presentation will begin by 6:45pm.

We regularly have folks from Eagle Lake, Slick Rock, Becky Mountain, See Off Mountain, Cedar Mountain, Rich Mountain, and even Brevard! We are glad to see you no matter where you live, so don't be shy. Bring your own plate and utensils so we can reduce our landfill waste. Hope to see you there!

This evening’s presentation is by Pam Torlina: “Wildflowers and Wildlife - Plant and Animal Interactions.”

This presentation explores the fascinating relationships between wildflowers and wildlife, highlighting the many ways plants and animals interact. From pollination and visual signals like color and scent, to specialized partnerships with insects, birds, and butterflies, we’ll look at how plants reproduce, support wildlife, and maintain healthy ecosystems. The program also touches on herbivory, seed dispersal, and even carnivorous plants, revealing the remarkable ecological connections quietly unfolding all around us.

Bio: Pam is a biologist and environmental educator with more than 30 years of experience working in conservation as a field biologist, naturalist, and outdoor educator for all ages. She has been with Conserving Carolina for more than 20 years, where she inspires people of all ages to connect with nature while helping protect the lands and waters of the Southern Appalachians.

Pam received her Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of South Carolina Upstate. Throughout her career, she has worked with the South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism, the City of Greenville Parks and Recreation–Youth Bureau, the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, and Haliburton Forest and Wildlife Reserve Ltd. in Ontario, Canada. Although her love of the natural world knows no bounds, Pam is passionate about birds and native plants and the vital role they play in supporting healthy ecosystems. She believes that fostering a connection to nature—whether through conservation, education, or hands-on habitat restoration—is one of the best ways to build healthy communities and inspire future generations of environmental stewards.

YOGA at the See Off Community Center is on Wednesdays from 4:00 - 5:15 pm.

It’s a free class, but donations to the Community Center are encouraged.  Beginners welcome!

Susan Hindman has been practicing yoga for 47 years and teaching yoga for 40 years. She celebrates this ancient practice that still has much to offer participants in modern times.

Here's how Susan describes her classes:  "We move through asanas (poses) connecting the mind to the body through the breath. People often think that yoga is just about stretching the muscles; however that is just the tip of the iceberg. Not only are you stretching and strengthening the muscles, but also stretching the ligaments & tendons, massaging the internal organs, relaxing the nervous system, circulating fresh oxygenated blood through the entire body, and so much more.  It's a moving meditation.  We come away feeling uplifted, & relaxed."

DUPONT CANTEEN ICE CREAM & MORE, 3945 Staton Road, will be closed Monday, Aug 17th through Sunday, August 23rd.  We have babies and weddings to celebrate!   We will be open Monday, Aug 24th with current hours of 12-8:00 pm.  (Food line shuts down at 7:30pm).  After Labor Day, starting Tuesday Sept 8, we will shift to fall hours and be open 12-6:00pm daily through Sunday, November 29th

AROUND THE HOUSE by Linda Packer Young
