CEDAR MOUNTAIN CANTEEN, PUBLIC HOUSE, AND APPALACHIAN CULTURAL CENTER

Our new name

As part of this transition we have also taken this opportunity to change our name. We use to officially be the Cedar Mountain Canteen Bier Garden.  We are now officially the Cedar Mountain Canteen Public House & Appalachian Cultural Center!  We are deeply rooted in Appalachian culture and we look forward to bringing more focus on the gifts this region shares.

Our newest employee-owner

It is hard to believe we have been offering the Canteen to the community for 6 years now.  We became an employee-owned cooperative over 2 years ago and as of April 29th we now have our 4th employee-owner.  Please welcome Tod Schmidt to the employee-ownership team of Owen Grooms, Kim Coram and John Wiseman.  We are so excited to have another employee join our employee-ownership team!  Thanks Tod for joining.

It’s a healthy baby girl

We are beyond excited to welcome Golda, Owen and Jenn’s baby girl, to the family.  We are just so excited!

Celebration - May 23!

We are hosting a celebration of these changes on May 23rd while we host the Junior Appalachian Musicians fundraiser, beverage tastings, live music and dance lessons.  We look forward to celebrating together and are deeply grateful for your love and support over the years.  Thank you.

CEDAR MOUNTAIN COMMUNITY CENTER POTLUCK

Our next potluck will be held May 11, 2026.  Sarah Dearbaugh of Cedar Mountain Moonshine and Kim Coram of Cedar Mountain Canteen and Public House will be speaking at the Cedar Mountain Community Center Potluck. They will share updates on the intersection project, highlight upcoming happenings in Cedar Mountain, and discuss the community’s progress and vision toward becoming zero-waste.

The potluck starts at 6 p.m.  Please bring your dish or dessert to share by 6:15 p.m. so we can start on time at 6:30 pm. Tableware will be available, but feel free to bring your own if you can. Come, enjoy the company of your neighbors and friends, and bring guests if you wish. Everyone is welcome.

REPAIR CAFE AT THE CEDAR MOUNTAIN CANTEEN

On Saturday May 30 from 4:30 pm - 6:30 pm you can bring something that needs repaired and have it fixed while you wait? Bring it to the Repair Cafe hosted by Transylvania Shares and the Cedar Mountain Canteen.  We are prepared to mend clothing, repair household appliances, furniture, tools and more.

Are you handy and able to repair things? We need you to help us staff our clinic. Everything is free and based on volunteers.

CROCKPOT COOK-OFF

Get ready to put your culinary creativity on display! The highly anticipated Crockpot Cook-off is coming up on Saturday, June 20th, at 6:00 PM, and it's going to be held at the Cedar Mountain Community Center. AROUND THE HOUSE by Linda Packer Young

We are finally going to have our decrepit walkway to our main entrance redone.  The current pavers that I installed over 17 years ago are disintegrating and becoming unsafe to walk on.  At least they served the purpose for at least 17 years.  Not bad for an amateur installation. The little wooden bridge over the French Drain is also crumbling and no longer safe to walk on as well.  Maybe I’ll share before and after pix when the job is done.
