PLAY IN THE RIVER
Come enjoy a relaxing day by the Little River in Cedar Mountain at the Cedar Mountain Canteen Appalachian Cultural Center. Our garden is located on the Little River that flows into DuPont and creates beautiful waterfalls. It is the perfect spot for a picnic. River access is open whenever we are open, so bring a blanket and stay for awhile. For your safety please wear water shoes while in the river, and remember that all children must be accompanied by an adult. We offer a wide selection of beverages, serve free vegan beans and rice every day, and look forward to seeing you.
ANIMAL BLOOD BANK Every drop saves a life
Would you consider enrolling your pet in a program that saves the lives of other animals in need? Pets often require lifesaving blood transfusions for reasons similar to humans, and South Asheville Veterinary Emergency and Specialty is currently seeking donor pets to assist with this critical need.
To qualify as a blood donor, pets must be healthy, between 1 and 8 years of age, and up to date on all vaccinations, as well as heartworm, flea, and tick preventatives. Candidates must possess a calm temperament, have no history of prior transfusions, and cats must be kept exclusively indoors. Weight requirements are as follows: dogs must be over 50 lbs (22.7 kg) with a lean body weight, and cats must be over 9 lbs (4 kg) with a lean body weight.
Participating pets receive an annual physical examination and complimentary yearly blood work from a licensed veterinarian, with results provided to your primary care provider. Additionally, donors are eligible for significant discounts on future emergency and specialty veterinary services, a commemorative photograph on the "Wall of Heroes," and a complimentary gift bag of treats and toys. Beyond these benefits, you have the profound satisfaction of knowing your pet is contributing to the health and well-being of our local animal community.

FAITH MEMORIAL CHAPEL
Faith Memorial Chapel welcomes folks of all denominations to our services, held on Sundays at 11:00 AM. We meet only in the summer and have no membership roll, so you won’t feel like a guest. Each Sunday, we have clergy from different churches that visit us to lead the service and we are blessed to also have great music to accompany the great message!
On June 28th, we welcome the Rev. Dr. Stephen Clyborne. Stephen is currently serving as Pastor of First Baptist Church in Piedmont, SC. He retired in January 2023, following a distinguished ministry culminating with his service as Senior Pastor at Earle Street Baptist Church in Greenville, South Carolina since 2009. Music this Sunday will be provided by Wendy Fowler. Wendy and her husband Robert live in Spartanburg, SC. She is currently the Music Director at Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Moore, SC., and teaches private voice and piano students at Stokes Music Studios in Greer. AROUND THE HOUSE by Linda Packer Young
We attended the Crock Pot Cook-off last Saturday evening at the Cedar Mountain Community Center. My honey entered a Lemon Cream Cheese Cookie Spoon Cake and was pleased to win 2nd place. We now have a lovely inspirational bowl inscribed with the words. “Enjoy today, Smile, and Grow Where You Are Planted.” Good advice.
Our home’s entry way is looking better. We have a plethora of moss, ferns and other native plants that have come in handy for covering the area left barren by the construction of our new ramp and paver walkway. Enough moss was harvested to cover most of the area in a green carpet and it’s looking good. No mowing needed either. I’m hoping the rain forecast will help it take root.
