HUNGER COALITION OF TRANSYLVANIA COUNTY

The Cedar Mountain Community Center will be a new food distribution location for the Hunger Coalition of Transylvania County.  They will distribute food every third Thursday of the month, from 3:00pm - 5:00pm, beginning Thursday, July 18, 2024, from 3pm to 5pm no questions asked.  You can even pick up food for someone else who needs it.

Volunteers are needed to help with the food distribution on those days.  If you are interested or need more information, please contact Ellen Meyer at 239-851-2767.

This is not just for Cedar Mountain Residents.  Absolutely everyone is welcome.  We hope this new distribution location will provide much-needed assistance to our communities.  Please share this with your neighbors and friends who may be interested in volunteering… or need occasional help getting food for their family. SHERWOOD FOREST LADIES GOLF LEAGUE RESULTS FOR JULY 15

We had 27 golfers this morning, one of our largest turnouts. We played the front nine in an individual game of "Odd Holes" (scores of odd holes counted for the game score).  Winner: Nancy Waclawek. Low net: Mel Kassab. Next week we will play the back 9. The game will be "4 Putts," a team game in which the game score is the sum of all four players' putts on each hole. We will also keep individual scores. Please be at the clubhouse by 8:30.  If you are running late please call the clubhouse at 828-884-7825 or text Sandy Gollnick at 716-830-2493. Sue Wojick, league president, announced that the Ladies League will be playing a Shamble Scramble with the Men's League on Aug. 16. Tee-off time is 10 a.m. The teams will be two women and two men. There will be a hot dog lunch afterwards. There is a sign up sheet up in the Ladies Locker Room. We hope to have a good turnout for this first-time event.

FAITH MEMORIAL CHAPEL

The Chapel welcomes folks of all denominations to our services, held on Sundays at 11:00 AM.  We meet only in the summer and have no membership roll, so you won’t feel like a guest.  Each Sunday, we have clergy from different churches that visit us to lead the service and we are blessed to also have great music to accompany the great message!

On July 21st, we welcome Rev. Dr. Stephen Clyborne.  Dr. Clyborne retired in January 2023, after a distinguished ministry culminating with his service as Senior Pastor at Earle Street Baptist Church in Greenville, South Carolina since 2009.

Mackenzie Douglas will be our soloist.  Mackenzie is a classical vocalist, percussionist, and educator originally from Raleigh, North Carolina. She is a recent graduate from Brevard College in Brevard, North Carolina.

CHRISTINE’S CORNER by Christine Pace

MEMORIES OF BOBBY JONESA memorial service was held Sunday right after the morning service at Rocky Hill Baptist Church.  It was for life-long Cedar Mountain resident Bobby Jones, who went “Home” to Heaven a few weeks ago, at the age of 93.  Rev. Tony Hemphill officiated, with “cousin” Patty Stahl giving a brief synopsis of Bobby’s life spent in this beautiful area, and the many ways he helped anyone here that was ever in need.  Bobby was a cousin to me (Christine) both through my marriage and also through the Solomon Jones line, as I was born a Jones.

The church was packed!  Following this heartfelt memorial service everyone was invited next door to the Family Life Center for further fellowship and a feast; tables were laden with home-made goodies I’m sure Bobby would have loved.  He’ll never go hungry or thirsty, be cold or hot ever again where he is.  We’ll see you again dear friend.

AROUND THE HOUSE AGAIN by Linda Packer Young

Finally home again.  I wish to thank my neighbor, Susan, for the excellent job of keeping our houseplants green while we were gone.  They look great.

Our last two days of our trip were spent in Pigeon Forge, TN.  We did not go to DollyWood.  All attractions were grossly overpriced.  We did find an indoor mini golf that was cool and great fun too.  There was a large family group in front of us so we had time to play the same holes up to 3 times before we could move on.  My honey won. I forfeited one round because I lost track of how many putts I putted.

The kitties couldn’t believe they finally could go outside of the RV when we got home.  Fortunately they understand what “OUTSIDE” means and cautiously came down the steps. They were shooed back so many times they couldn’t believe they could finally go out.

There’s no place like home.
