!FAITH MEMORIAL CHAPEL welcomes folks of all denominations to our services, held on Sundays at 11:00 AM.  We meet only in the summer and have no membership roll, so you won’t feel like a guest.  Each Sunday, we have clergy from different churches that visit us to lead the service and we are blessed to also have great music to accompany the great message! On July 12th, we welcome the Dr. Fred W. Andrea III. Fred retired in 2018 after a twenty-five year tenure as Senior Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Aiken, South Carolina. He has since been serving as Senior Pastor of Clinton Methodist Church in Salley, South Carolina.  Music this Sunday will be provided by Craig Price. Bass-Baritone Craig Philip Price, a native of Gilbert, South Carolina, holds degrees in Voice Performance from Furman University and Manhattan School of Music, as well as a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of South Carolina.

BRISKET BBQ

Saturday’s BBQ was a huge success! The newly acquired Music Room space at The Canteen was packed with hungry customers. The lines were long, and we sold over 200 brisket plates within the first hour. The event continued until we sold out at 2:30 p.m. Thanks to everyone who made this possible, especially the incredible outpouring of support from our community and volunteers. Thank you all for supporting Cedar Mountain Fire Rescue. 

SEE OFF COMUNITY CENTER

Our next potluck will be Sunday, July 19, 2026. Fellowship begins at 5:30 pm and supper is served at 6:00 pm. There are lots of great cooks on our mountain, and there is always plenty to eat so plan to come and bring your friends. The presentation will begin by 6:45pm.

We regularly have folks from Eagle Lake, Slick Rock, Becky Mountain, See Off Mountain, Cedar Mountain, and Rich Mountain, and we are glad to see you no matter where you live, so don't be shy. Bring your own plate and utensils so we can reduce our landfill waste. Hope to see you there!

Presentation by Quintin Overocker: The Southern Appalachian Mountains began their story over a billion years ago, with the evidence written into the rocks around us. This presentation will cover how these mountains came to be, why they look like they do now, and how geologic events from hundreds of millions of years ago influence earthquakes, groundwater, weather, and the impacts of Hurricane Helene.

Background: Quintin earned his Master of Science in Geology at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. Before he began his career in higher education, he worked as a grade control geologist at an underground platinum and palladium mine in Montana.  Prior to becoming Registrar at Brevard College, he served as an Admissions Counselor, Academic Advisor, Associate Registrar, and Director of Admissions and Records at various colleges and universities. Quintin enjoys hiking, mountain biking, canoeing, and exploring creeks and rivers (and cleaning up trash along the way) with his wife, daughter, and their dog, Hobbes.

July 2026 Potluck Program 

Celebration of America’s 250th Birthday 

Come join your neighbors in celebrating America’s 250th Birthday at the July Potluck scheduled for July 13th. Bring your favorite summer dish to share. Please have your food on the table by 6:15 PM and the meal will begin at 6:30 PM.  A 250th Birthday cake and ice cream will be provided. There will be a sing-a-long of several patriotic songs and a quiz bowl with questions/answers on the founding of America. Test your knowledge on our country’s history. 

ROCKY HILL BAPTIST CHURCH

The Illumination Station Vacation Bible School will be held at Rocky Hill Baptist Church from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm for three evenings - July 19 through July 21.  All children ages preschool up to middle school are invited.  Call Patty Stahl at 885-2498 for more information.

AROUND THE HOUSE by Linda Packer Young

We started a new project this week.  We had 6 chairs in storage when Helene hit and the building flooded. Although they fared well the paint was peeling. The chairs have been sanded and glued where needed.  One seat was cracked and needed to be glued and clamped.  The crack was repaired with wood filler. We painted 3 today.  When finished, we will actually have a dining room.
