TRANSYLVANIA SHARES

Can you fix things?  We need you for our free Repair Cafe.

The Cedar Mountain Canteen and Transylvania Shares has partnered with WNC Repair Cafe to bring fix-it clinics to Transylvania County.  Our first clinic will be in September.  We need volunteers who can fix things like furniture, tools and appliances.  We also need folks who can sew and mend.  If you have skills and are willing to donate your time, please let us know.  We need a local community of fixers.  We know you are out there.

A reasonable ratio of volunteers to participants is essential for a successful repair event, and volunteers of all skill levels are greatly appreciated. Email Transylvania Shares at TransylvaniaShares@gmail.com if you are interested in helping.  Thank you!  Everything on this earth is supremely valuable.  Nothing is disposable.

CEDAR MT FIRE/ RESCUE FUNDRAISER

Join the Cedar Mountain Canteen on Sunday July 6th as they host Cedar Mountain Fire & Rescue’s annual cookout fundraiser. A brisket dinner will be served at 1 pm and 3 pm. Dinner includes brisket, salad, and baked potato.  Vegan and kids plates are available.  An old time music jam will begin at 3 pm.

CEDAR MOUNTAIN COMMUNITY CENTER JULY POTLUCK/PROGRAM

Come join us on July 8th for the next Cedar Mountain Community Center Potluck. The program for the evening is “Plan Your Next Staycation in WNC”. There is no need to travel great distances for vacations or quick getaways. Discover the many free and affordable things to see and do in your own backyard. Michael Arrowood, longtime tourism advocate and tour guide, will share tidbits on discovering free and inexpensive activities and destinations just a short drive away.

Bring a dish to share by 6:15 pm and the meal will begin at 6:30 pm.  Everyone is welcome.

FAITH MEMORIAL CHAPEL welcomes folks of all denominations to our services, held on Sundays at 11:00 AM.  We meet only in the summer and have no membership roll, so you won’t feel like a guest.  Each Sunday, we have clergy from different churches that visit us to lead the service and we are blessed to also have great music to accompany the great message!

On July 6th, we welcome The Rev. Dr. Steven P. Eason.  Dr. Steve Eason is a retired Presbyterian (USA) pastor, author, pastoral counselor, teacher and consultant.

This Sunday, we welcome Wayne Bishop. Wayne was born and raised in Cedar Mountain, NC.  He went to high school in Brevard and majored in music at Brevard College.

AROUND THE HOUSE by Linda Packer Young

I don’t know about everybody else out there but I’m hoping this Free Repair Cafe (above) is successful.  If you can donate some of your time and skills to this project please let them know and let’s get this ball rolling.

I for one would love to have our pressure washer do some pressure washing.  If someone at the Repair Cafe could figure out why it’s not working we would be very grateful.

Please note that the deadline to submit articles for the Cedar Mountain News is Monday night.  If your contribution will be later you need to let me know.  Email cedarmountainnews@gmail.com with all community news.  Photos are welcome and need to be 900kb or more to be used in the paper.
