DARK SKIES – CMCC

The public is invited to attend the next presentation of our monthly "Fire Side Chats" at the Cedar Mountain Community Center. The presentation will be given by Al Brothers, a passionate advocate for the Dark Sky Initiative. This initiative is dedicated to restoring the nighttime environment and protecting communities from the harmful effects of light pollution through outreach, advocacy, and conservation. It aims to preserve the natural night sky, promote scientific research and education in astronomy, and raise awareness about the importance of reducing light pollution. This presentation is particularly timely as International Dark Sky Week will be observed from April 2-8. This week is dedicated to celebrating the night and taking action to protect the night from light pollution. The presentation will be on Wednesday, March 27th at 2:00 PM at Cedar Mountain Community Center, 10635 Greenville Highway in Cedar Mountain.

SPRING BREAK

Transylvania schools are off this week through & including Monday, April 1st.  Easter is early as is spring break!

My granddaughter Cassi came home for a quick 3-day visit last weekend so I took her to visit “Alice’s Garden”, part of a local Health & Rehabilitation center.  The picture here shows her in the garden area holding one of the 2 “resident” dogs who live at this fine facility.

GARDEN REHAB

A couple of school girls have taken on the restoration of Alice’s Garden as a school project.  What an amazing job they’re doing!  The residents are so excited to see all the activity.  A couple of residents happily rake leaves & whatever they can do to help.  The girls (and their parents) are funding this project partly through donations, in hopes of adding outdoor seating and planter boxes, annuals the residents can plant, and maybe a new rose bush or two.  It’s refreshing!  If you have a raised bed you’re no longer using or wanting, please let me know(Christine) at: chris_p_artist@yahoo.com

HAPPY BIRTHDAY

My grandson Levi, who lives in Matthews, NC, turned 15 on March 26th.  Soon he’ll be on the road learning to drive!  I pray he has as good a driving record as me, his grandma; never a ticket or an accident.  Not to brag.  Well, yes, I guess I am … just a little bit.

AROUND THE HOUSE by Linda Packer Young

Every time my tuxedo cat, Nozee, wants something he sits on the counter and keeps poking me in the shoulder until I figure out what he wants.  I told my honey about this and had been asking for a wall hanging to be installed in the new bathroom for weeks.  I told him I was going to poke him in the shoulder without saying a word every day until the job was done. It took a few pokes but it's finally done.  Thanks, honey (and Nozee).
