HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM THE CEDAR MOUNTAIN ROTARY CLUB by Cathey Haupert
We hope that everyone is having wonderful Holidays. Our first meeting in 2026 will have speakers from our parent club, Pisgah Forest Rotary. Joan Van Orman and Lynn Bartosh will tell us about their experiences at the 2025 Rotary international Convention in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I am looking forward to their presentation. The meeting is on January 5th at 5:30 pm at the Cedar Mountain Community Center located at 10635 Greenville Hwy. Cedar Mountain, NC. Guests are always welcome. A potluck meal will follow the meeting. You may contact Cathy Haupert at 607-280-0889 for information.
CEDAR MOUNTAIN CANTEEN
The Cedar Mountain Canteen has received a large donation of food. We have about 100 pounds of a variety of dried beans, about 25 pounds of quinoa, 50 pounds of brown rice and about 50 pounds of organic oat bran. Stop by and pick up anything you would like. If you want less than 25 pounds of something, please bring a container.
PLEASE HELP US WELCOME UNC PARDEE HEALTH TO TRANSYLVANIA COUNTY!
Dear Friends, Colleagues and Neighbors,
I’m writing to personally invite you to join me in welcoming UNC Pardee Health to Transylvania County!
We are forming a new group called Friends of Pardee Hospital, and I hope you’ll be part of it.
To join, please go to https://pardeehospitalfoundation.org/get-involved/friends-transylvania/
Access to excellent health care is something we all value deeply. With all the changes in Transylvania County over the past several years, maintaining that access has been a challenge. That’s why I’m especially excited about the new 30,000 square-foot Pardee Health facility now under construction in College Plaza, right across from Brevard College. This is a major investment by Pardee in our community. Scheduled to open in late January or early February 2026, the new facility will bring:
Primary care physicians
Rotating specialty surgeons
Cancer care, OB/GYN, Infusion and other essential services
A 2000 square-foot state-of-the-art pharmacy (with a drive-thru window) that will offer lower pricing on over-the-counter medications like Tylenol and many others.
By joining Friends of Pardee Hospital, you’ll simply receive occasional updates about Pardee’s expansion into Transylvania County — including details on the new services coming to Brevard. You’ll also likely be invited to tour the facility before or around Opening Day. This is an exciting moment for all of us who live and work in Transylvania County. Pardee’s arrival will be a tremendous boost to the health and well-being of our community.
Please join me in welcoming Pardee Hospital to Transylvania County!
Thank you, Mark Weinstein

AROUND THE HOUSE by Linda Packer Young
They say the older a couple gets the more you think alike. We did that when we first met and we often complete each other's sentences.
I recently reminisced that my favorite candy of all time was Fannie Mae chocolates. Years ago the original Fannie Mae unfortunately went out of business. That caused such an outcry from Fannie Mae fans that another candy company took over the name. Unknown to my honey, I ordered a lb as a surprise under the Christmas tree. My honey took my mention of the candy as a hint and ordered 2 lbs of it. My order arrived before Christmas but there had been such a clamor for these chocolates that they ran out and aren’t here yet. I won’t be wishing for more Fannie Mae chocolates for a while.
