CEDAR MOUNTAIN CANTEEN by Kim Coram

The holidays are wrapping up.  With the death of our beloved Daniel and the depression we have witnessed throughout these holidays we are drawn to elevate the conversation about mental health in our village.    There are mental health festivals around the country and we are going to host one at the Canteen.  We are in the planning stages now.             Are you interested in being a part of the event?  Let us know.  You can email us at LittleEddyLLC@gmail.com or stop by and let us know.

REPAIR CAFE

Earlier we reported that since Brevard was hosting regular Repair Cafes, the Canteen would discontinue them.  That didn't last long.  The response from the community has let us know they should continue in Cedar Mountain too.  We are working with coordinators in Brevard and Hendersonville on a schedule for 2026.  We will let you know as soon as all is finalized.  Thanks for the feedback!

FREE FOOD

The Cedar Mountain Canteen has a large donation of food.  We have about 100 pounds of a variety of dried beans, about 25 pounds of quinoa, 50 pounds of brown rice and about 50 pounds of organic oat bran.  Stop by and pick up anything you would like.  If you want less than 25 pounds of something, please bring a container.

Join us for our monthly community potluck, open to everyone.. Guests are encouraged to bring a dish to share and help reduce waste by bringing their own plate, silverware, and cup; however, supplies will be available if needed. Those in need of a hot meal are warmly invited to attend—no contribution is required, and there is always an abundance of food. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with dinner service beginning at 6:00 p.m.

This month’s program will feature Kieran Roe, executive director of Conserving Carolina, who will present an overview of the organization’s mission, history, and impactful work in and around Cedar Mountain. Conserving Carolina has safeguarded over 50,000 acres of mountains, foothills, rivers, and farmland, established parks, trails, and greenways, restored critical habitats, and engaged the community through volunteer initiatives, outdoor activities, educational programs, and native plant gardening. AROUND THE HOUSE by Linda Packer Young

We were finally able to secure the shingles on our handicap ramp on Friday.  Now we are ready for winter weather to set in.  The shingles prevent slipping on an icy ramp.  This was timely because there was ice on the ramp Sunday morning.
