CROCK POT COOK-OFF at CEDAR MOUNTAIN COMMUNITY
Scheduled for 1/31/26 is postponed
Due to current weather conditions; roads & temperatures, and the forecast for another possible storm this coming weekend, The Cedar Mountain Crock Pot Cook-off will be scheduled for another date which will be posted later.
CEDAR MOUNTAIN ROTARY CLUB
The next meeting is on Monday, February 2nd, Groundhog Day. Let’s all hope that Punxsutawney Phil doesn’t see his shadow and scurry back into his burrow. After this past weekend we could use an early spring. The meeting will be at the Cedar Mountain Community Center, 10635 Greenville Hwy, Cedar Mountain, NC at 5:30pm.
Peter Chaves, a Retired US Diplomat, will be speaker at our meeting. I have heard him speak and found him to be very interesting and informative. Hope everyone keeps warm and safe. Cathy Haupert
CEDAR MOUNTAIN CANTEEN
After the sadness we experienced over the holidays, we feel inspired to spark more conversations about mental health. Mental health festivals are happening around the country, and we’re excited to host one here at the Canteen. We’re still in the planning stages, but if you’d like to be part of it, please reach out. You can email us at LittleEddyLLC@gmail.com or stop by to let us know.
REPAIR CAFE
We previously shared that the Canteen would stop hosting Repair Cafes since Brevard was offering them regularly. That plan didn’t last long! The community’s response made it clear they should continue in Cedar Mountain as well. We’re now working with coordinators in Brevard and Hendersonville to create a 2026 schedule and will share details as soon as everything is set.
BLOOD DRIVE
Saturday, February 14, Valentine’s Day, is a perfect occasion to express love and compassion by helping those in need of a lifesaving transfusion! Join this heartfelt cause by calling the American Red Cross at 1-800-733-2767 to schedule your appointment between 8:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Then, come to the Cedar Mountain Fire and Rescue station at Cascade Lake Rod and Greenville Hwy in Cedar Mountain. You have the opportunity to make a difference in someone’s life through the gift of blood.

AROUND THE HOUSE by Linda Packer Young
Well, last weekend was something! The fun started Thursday morning when our propane ran out. We depend on our fireplace and space heater when the power goes off. I desperately tried to contact our propane company. They were overwhelmed with calls but I finally got through after holding for 20 minutes. Blossman Gas was able to come Saturday morning before the storm hit. I hugged the gas guy. (Yes, I did!)
The power went off and on for hours. I had just fixed a cup of coffee when one blackout occurred, and I didn't get my egg and toast for breakfast. It was cold cereal.
We were glad to find the ice had melted off the trees Monday morning but we never went outside.
