TRANSYLVANIA SENIOR GAMES AND SILVER ARTS
We are finally able to participate in the Senior Games again. So I am calling all you health fanatics over the age of 50 to come and have some fun at the Recreation Center on Ecusta Road 828-884-3156. There is a sport for just about every one and a class for those that have a hobby and produce wonderful artifacts. The events start on April 18th with the opening ceremonies and the presentation of the performing arts. The events run through May 4th with the closing ceremonies and medal presentations. At the closing, we all celebrate with a dinner. If you would like to join in I have some applications so call Gillian Hillman at 828-782-3012 or go to the Rec. center and pick up a copy.
For more information please call me or the Rec. center 828-884-3156. Just for those real health and competitive folks, the winners can then go on and participate in the State Games, and winners from there, on to the Nationals.
THE ELVES OF BREVARD
The Elves of Brevard are collecting personal care items and candy to make Easter Bags for all of the residents in the assisted living and skilled nursing facilities in the county. Items can be dropped off at Telco Bank. We also provide cards every month to each of these residents if anyone would like to become a card maker. Visit The Elves of Brevard Facebook Page for more details about either project.
CHRISTINE’S CORNER by Christine Pace
SPRING FORWARD
This weekend is Daylight Savings Time where we change our clocks forward, meaning we lose an hour of sleep Saturday night/Sunday morning. Don’t be late to church!
WAKING UP Cedar Mountain is busy & coming to life. The new Outpost is always busy when I (Christine) drive by, as is Creekside Market and the Cedar Mountain Cafe. Our community gains more visitors daily it seems.
Studio 276 has a beautiful fence going up, being installed by Randy Pace. It’s looking great! EASTER Rocky Hill Baptist Church is practicing a beautiful Easter cantata titled “God So Loved the World” this year. If you want to sing with us just show up at practice: 7pm Wednesdays and 4pm Sunday afternoons. Lenoir Bishop is the choir director.
You are invited to attend services inside Rocky Hill Baptist Church on Easter Sunday, April 17th, at 11am.
For more information please call the pastor of Rocky Hill church, Dr. Leland Holland at (828)862-5611. MARCH BIRTHDAYS Jim Sketo gained another year on March 2nd; and Donna Stout on the 5th. Santie Coester’s birthday was on the 6th! Anne Guffey was celebrated on March 8th as was Jimmy Harris, followed on the 9th with Lucia Gerdes. Hope you all had a wonderful birthday!
Coming up will be Fred Rich, who grows a year older on March 16th. Jentsen Rackley was born a long time ago, on the 17th. Dana Huskey celebrates each year on March 19th, while Nancy Mayer gets recognized on March 20th. Carol Ableman will gain a year on the 24th, and (Christine’s grandson) Levi Emmanuel Jones becomes a teenager on March 26th! Praying you all enjoy your special day this month.
There are no wedding anniversaries in March? If you have a birthday or anniversary, or any other celebrations, please send it to (me) Christine Pace at chris_p_artist@yahoo.com.
AROUND THE HOUSE by Linda Young
I again have two choirs to sing with. Even though we have to wear masks any time we are indoors at my church (Unitarian Universalist) it is good to be back with the choir. I also participate in the Christmas and Easter Cantatas at Rocky Hill Baptist Church in Cedar Mountain. Both choir practices are on Wednesdays so by Wednesday night I am pretty much sung out. I do enjoy both though.
Thank you for reading the Cedar Mountain News. Your contributions and comments are encouraged and welcome. We’d love to hear what’s going on if you would like to share. Photos are welcome as well. Please respond by Monday evening.
