CEDAR MOUNTAIN COMMUNITY CENTER’
GRAND OPENING
On Tuesday night a potluck and community gathering was held at the center. It was nice to see folks who we haven’t seen since before Helene and a lot of new faces.
A beautiful job was done restoring and remodeling the interior. It is spectacular. Many thanks to president, Clint Owings, who worked relentlessly on the project along with many members from the community. Congratulations on a job well done.
A slide show was presented featuring photos of the flood in Cedar Mountain and how it affected the community. Photos of the interior of the center were shown during and following the flood which was heartbreaking. The kitchen with new counters and cabinets, floors and appliances was wonderful to see. The bathrooms are now for both genders each and one is handicapped accessible. The new front door is very pleasing and now has an improved ramp for the handicapped.
Our next potluck will be held on Tuesday, June 10th. Everyone is welcome no matter where you reside. Come on down, bring a dish to share, and join the fun. Dishes to share need to be on the serving tables by 6:15 pm

SING-ALONG ON JUNE 7
Raise your voice in song at the McGaha Chapel annual summer sing-along on Saturday, June 7. The Chapel will be open to visitors at 1:30 and the program will begin at 2:30 p.m. Don’t worry if your skills are not ready for show time, more adept vocalists always carry the tune, sending old favorites echoing through the 1872 structure. After singing, stick around for a refreshing watermelon social.
Park at the Robin Hood Centre (70 Robin Hood Road, Brevard) or the adjacent barn lot. Shuttle service to the Chapel will be provided by Sherwood Forest Woodcutters or you can enjoy a short, albeit hilly, walk to the venue. Shuttle service will begin at 1:45 p.m. and resume after the event.
This free, annual event, born of our neighbor Charlie Burden’s fond memories of nightly mill camp.
Sing a Long, is now sponsored by the Transylvania County Historical Society, the Cedar Mountain Community, and Sherwood Forest Friends.
AROUND THE HOUSE Linda Packer Young
It certainly is nice to be home again. I didn’t kiss the ground this time, but I thought about it.
Our kind neighbor made sure our plants stayed green while we were gone. Thanks Susan. Most of them are outside now. If they die they die. I managed to keep a geranium going all winter and it looks good so far. I think the grow light lamp did the trick keeping it going. My mother used to pull them up, hang’em upside down in the basement and replant them in the Spring. Somehow it worked for her. I tried that once and they didn’t make it.
All did not go well on our trip. We were traveling toward Knoxville, TN when two guys in a pickup pulled up and yelled that something about the tow bar. Sure enough one part was dragging the ground. I managed to secure it with Velcro and we were off again. There was nothing to do but have me drive the Jeep following the motor home (Infirmary) to Pigeon Forge, TN and then on home two days later. I was having fun helping my honey change lanes with the motor home. I’d squeeze over a lane and then slow down so he could pull in front. That’s teamwork.
