Their vision is to create an environment in Western North Carolina where the rich music traditions of the region are sustained and utilized in appropriate ways to improve the lives of residents; where traditional musicians thrive and feel supported in their creative lives; where visitors and residents alike can appreciate and enjoy the richness of the music; and where youth are provided with first-hand traditional music experiences that spark interest in the music of the region.

MCGAHA CHAPEL SINGALONG

Sing the old songs your great grandparents sang at this cheerful gathering at historic McGaha Chapel on Saturday afternoon, June 6, at 2:30 pm. There will be forty-five minutes of songs about travel, work, love, and heartbreak followed by freshly sliced watermelon outside the Chapel. A brief history of the Chapel and some of its early members will also be shared.  A shuttle service will be available at the Robin Hood Center parking lot at Sherwood Forest, beginning at 1:45. Follow the signs posted on Hwy 276 to locate the shuttle service. This event is sponsored by the Transylvania County Historical Society, the Sherwood Forest Friends, and the Cedar Mountain Community.

FAITH MEMORIAL CHAPEL

Faith Memorial Chapel welcomes folks of all denominations to our services, held on Sundays at 11:00 AM.  We meet only in the summer and have no membership roll, so you won’t feel like a guest.  Each Sunday, we have clergy from different churches that visit us to lead the service and we are blessed to also have great music to accompany the great message!

On June 7th, we welcome the Rev. Dr. Pamela Patrick Cole. Pam is an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church (ECO) and her goal for ministry is to serve Christ and to be conformed to his image.

Music this Sunday will be provided by Maggie Lovin. Maggie graduated from Furman University in 2020 with a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance, where she studied under Professor Lisa Barksdale.

AROUND THE HOUSE by Linda Packer Young

Long ago there was a TV show called Bewitched with Samantha the Witch played by actress Elizabeth Montgomery.  She could twitch her nose, wriggle her lips, and clean her house in a flash when need be.  I’d like to have that talent for just a day and make my yard work go away.
