2023 CEDAR MOUNTAIN HISTORICAL CALENDARS

The 2023 calendars again feature a historic theme for $15.00 and are available at The Hiker and the Hound, Cedar Mountain Canteen, Studio 276, Cedar Mountain Café, and the Cedar Mountain Outpost. Proceeds benefit the Cedar Mountain Community Center.

SILENT AUCTION AND POTLUCK

The Cedar Mountain Community Center will be holding a silent auction on Monday, August 8th and we've already collected some great items from businesses, local people, and from Brevard. The silent auction will open at 6 pm and you will be able to browse available items, place your bid, and then go enjoy a potluck supper with the community. Don't forget to circle back and see if someone else has bid on your favorite items!

Please have your dish to share for the potluck on the serving tables by 6:15 pm so we can begin eating promptly at 6:30 pm.

Bidding will close at 7pm and while dessert is served, the auction committee will coordinate who has won each item. They will notify the winners and will be able to take payment in cash, credit, or check on the spot.

About a week before the Auction, the CMCC board will put a list of items with pictures and descriptions on the CMCC website (cedarmountaincommunitycenter.com). Anyone can browse this list and get excited about what's available! If you will not be able to attend the auction, you can go to the website and enter your name, contact information, and maximum bid for any of the items. Online bidding will close 24 hours before the auction begins.

During the auction, a CMCC board member will act as your proxy and go around to the items and enter your bid at the bid increments up to your maximum amount. If you win an item, we will email you an invoice to pay online and coordinate getting your winnings to you (either mail or pick up at the community center). However, if you end up attending the auction, your online bid will be void and you will need to bid in person.

We hope this will let members of the community who are unable to participate in the silent auction in person, still have a chance to get some of the really excellent gift cards, baskets, and art that's going to be available in this year's CMCC auction.

TRANSYLVANIA TAE KWON DO

Colin Watkins and Caroline Chambers have worked hard this summer training and putting together a Tae Kwon Do program for children ages 4-9. (We hope to add programming for older kids in the spring). We are finalizing a licensing agreement with the American Tae Kwon Do Association (ATA), which means you can be assured your kids are getting high-quality martial arts instruction. If you're interested in learning more, go to transylvaniataekwondo.com and fill out the interest survey. Dates, times, and rate information is available and will be kept up to date. We will send out an email to parents as soon as registration is available later this summer.

RENT THE CENTER

To rent the center please contact us well before your event. Please send an email to cmcc28718@gmail.com with your proposed date as soon as possible. You may also apply online at https://www.cedarmountaincommunitycenter.com/rental.

CHRISTINE’S CORNER by Christine Pace

PASTOR LELAND HOLLAND

Prayers are going up for the pastor of Rocky Hill Baptist Church, Dr. Leland Holland, who underwent quadruple heart bypass surgery at Mission hospital in Asheville on Monday afternoon, and strength for his wife Deb.

TENNIS ANYONE?

My grandson (8) is into his second week of tennis camp with Dave at the Brevard Racquet Club. I take him to these daily 2-hour lessons and, while there, run into almost as many people I know as I do when shopping at Ingles!

I learned the racquet club accepts “Silver Sneakers” which I have, so I plan to join in August. I used to do water aerobics there and am anxious to get back to it!

AROUND THE HOUSE by Linda Packer Young

We finally got the plumbing fixed last Friday night. It was the only plumber who returned our call. We called 9 others whom I still haven’t heard from. Our plumbing issue is likely to reoccur because the fittings used back in the 80’s have now been banned and are failing. We need a plumber to change out the rest of the fittings if anybody knows one,

I want to thank our kind neighbors who even offered the use of their showers during our plumbing problems. My honey used the shower in the motor home but I preferred to take up my neighbors' offer. Thanks, Ellen and Doug.

I have a new toy. I got a mobile garden seat. I can scoot along on 4 wheels while weeding which makes it a lot easier. And it has a tractor-size seat. Yes!

Post note: Thank you for reading the Cedar Mountain News. We are here to make sure you know what is going on in the neighborhood and elsewhere in the area. Please send all photos and/or news and announcements to cedarmountainnews@gmail.com. Photos need to be close to 900 kb or better for publication in the news. The deadline for submissions is Monday night or early Tuesday.
