TRANSYLVANIA SHARES FREE REPAIR CAFE
Are you handy and love fixing things? We need your help to support our repair clinic! Everything we do is free and volunteer-based. We’re here to mend clothing, fix sewing machines, and repair household appliances, furniture, and tools. Whether you have a broken blender or skills with a screwdriver, the WNC Repair Cafe is all about neighbors helping neighbors and reducing waste.
The Cedar Mountain Canteen and Transylvania Shares are partnering with WNC Repair Cafe to bring fix-it clinics to Transylvania County. Our first clinic is on Saturday, September 20th, from 4:30pm to 7:30 pm at the Cedar Mountain Canteen. No reservations are needed—just show up! Don’t forget to join us for the potluck too.
We’re looking for volunteers who can repair furniture, tools, and appliances, or sew and mend. If you have these skills and are willing to donate your time, we’d love to hear from you. A good ratio of volunteers to participants is crucial for a successful event, and we welcome volunteers of all skill levels. If you’re interested, please email Transylvania Shares at TransylvaniaShares@gmail.com. Thank you for being part of this effort. Everything on this earth is incredibly valuable—nothing is disposable!
SEE OFF COMMUNITY CENTER
Our First Aid/CPR/AED training session will take place at the community center this coming Saturday (9/20) from 10 am - 12 Noon. This training may help YOU save the life of someone you love. We currently have about 18 people signed up to attend, but no signup is necessary if you want to come.
Please join us for our September potluck on Sunday, 9-21-25. Wendy Manner will be giving us an update on the Pucker Up Berry Farm after it’s original location sustained severe damage from Hurricane Helene.
Bring a friend and your dish to share at 5:30pm and we’ll socialize a bit before eating at 6pm. Paula and Doug Poad will host this potluck. Bring your own plates and utensils if you wish. It reduces our contributions to the landfill. See you there. Everyone is welcome.

With support from our wonderful community and grant funding we have been able to rebuild the center, adding some great new features. We would like to take this opportunity to hear from you about how you would like the CMCC to better serve our residents. We have a short Survey for the CMCC website that we would like everyone to complete; it only takes a few minutes! Go to http://cedarmountaincommunitycenter.com and click on “Take the 2025 CMCC Community Survey”

AROUND THE HOUSE by Linda Packer Young
Well, this past week has been quite an ordeal but my honey is home again and we are glad for that. He did have a TIA (minor stroke). He was transported to Transylvania RH last Friday evening, and then sent to Mission HCA on Sat morning for an MRI which he didn’t get till Friday. I can’t express our feelings about that in this context.
