EASTER AT ROCKY HILL Due to Covid-19, there will be no Easter Sunrise service by Rocky Hill Baptist church at “Pretty Place” (Symmes Chapel) again this year. The Easter cantata will be held inside Rocky Hill church at 11:00 am Easter Sunday, April 4th. Everyone is welcome! Masks and social distancing is recommended. If you prefer, you can listen to the service on radio station 87.9. The radio range is only about 1 ½ miles so if you prefer to listen from your car you will need to be at or fairly close to the church.

For over 60 years the choir of Rocky Hill Baptist church here in Cedar Mountain has performed in the early morning on Easter, ending in song as the sun rose behind the choir, putting them in silhouette. It’s really spectacular! Afterwards Camp Greenville would offer a breakfast buffet in their dining hall. Hopefully all will return to normal in 2022.

This year’s cantata titled “Victor’s Crown” was created by Dennis & Nan Allen. The choir leader is the talented Lenoir Bishop. The pastor of Rocky Hill church, Dr. Leland Holland, will bring an Easter message following the cantata this year. You may call him for more information at: (828) 862-5611

CHRISTINE’S CORNER by Christine Pace

The day this edition comes out, Thursday, is the day I will receive my 2nd Covid vaccine. To say I’m excited is an understatement!

Next week (on April Fool’s Day) I will be posting the April birthdays & anniversaries, so if you have a celebration in April that I don’t already know about please fill me in by email: chris_p_artist@yahoo.com

One special-to-me young man/boy is celebrating his 12th birthday on Friday March 26th: my grandson Levi Emmanuel Jones. I drove to his home in Matthew’s, NC this past weekend to celebrate early, and his gift from me, a Xylophone, was well received. I also gave him a tool kit that made his dad envious! Levi has been taller than me since the end of last year, but now his voice is changing; I couldn’t believe that deep voice came from my sweet little grandson! Not so little anymore (sigh). Finally this week I received a small anti-bark device to discourage my two pups from barking, but since it doesn’t sound out loud for me to hear I can’t tell if they hear it! They don’t seem to respond either way when I press the button. A light comes on, so I know the battery is good, but I can’t tell if the device is good. Have you had this experience? I welcome your suggestions.

Happy spring!

AROUND THE HOUSE by Linda Young

Last Saturday I had the privilege to participate in a reproduction of the Warrior Song.

The Warrior (song) production is a collaboration between two of Newfoundland and Labrador’s powerful all-women’s musical groups; Lady Cove Women’s Choir and Eastern Owl. It is the hope of both groups that this work will inspire and empower women to keep fighting for gender equity as well as continue to look out for other and lift each other up.

The Unitarian Universalist Church has duplicated this production locally and consisted of more than 40 women and a film crew. It is in post-production and will be on YouTube soon. I will let you know when that happens.

It was thrilling to participate in this production with so many other women joining in. The film crew was everywhere and a drone captured aerial footage. I can’t wait to see how we did.
