COMMUNITY CENTER MEETING CALLING ALL TALENT
Please come to the Talent Show at the Cedar Mountain Community Center's monthly meeting on Monday July 13th. Participants age 18 and under will all win a prize. Let me know if you have a talent to share at this meeting: Christine Pace at (828)885-2103.
If center president, Beth Owings, bakes her famous chocolaty-chocolate cake she too will win a prize. She will have to sing too. Come on out, bring your neighbor and enjoy the entertainment.
Covered-dish meal begins at 6:30pm. Dishes to share need to be on the table by 6:15pm. The program will begin shortly after 7pm.
COMMUNITY CENTER NEWS
The Cedar Mt Community Center has a like new Stainless Steel Bertazonni Propane Range for sale. It is 36” wide, has 5 burners and a convection oven. This new stove’s oven proved to be too small for center use and a new 48” commercial convection range will take its place. The Bertazonni purchase price was $3600 but we will sell for $2000. Call 828-885-2831 if interested.
Our new sign is to be installed sometime this month making it much easier to make announcements.
The center is installing Wi-Fi and a Verizon cell phone booster to the center as a service to the community by June 24th.
2016 COMMUNITY CENTER CALENDAR PHOTO CONTEST
The Center is developing a 2016 Calendar consisting of photos from the Cedar Mountain Area. The deadline for submissions is Friday July 3, 2015. Don’t miss out. The calendars should be available for sale at our August 10th potluck.
Entries are open to all. Please note there is a limit of 3 photos per entrant and they must be of the Cedar Mountain Area. Subject matter can include: sights, events, history, etc. Digital photos are preferred. JPEGS will be accepted by email submission for review. A high resolution image will be needed if your submission is selected.

WEDDING BELLS
It's official. They are hitched. The mountains were at their most magnificent as Wendy Bess (Manager, Creekside Market in Cedar Mountain) married Jeff Caughey at Pressley Falls here in Cedar Mountain. Both Wendy and Jeff are glowing and happy. It was overheard that the ceremony, and indeed the entire weekend, could not have been more perfect. Congratulations and best wishes, Wendy & Jeff...

Our annual fundraiser Chicken Dinner will be held at the Community Center Saturday July 25th from 5 – 7pm. $10 adults, $6 for children.

The bookmobile visits the Cedar Mountain Community Center from 4-6pm on the second Thursday each month.

SITTING WITH "JILL"
Just to make columnist Linda Young jealous I want to say first that as I sit at my computer writing this week's newsy items, I have little Jilly-Bean on my shoulder. "Jill" is my tiny Chihuahua who, now half grown, maybe weighs a good two pounds. She is the sweetest and most adorable little dog ever. Linda will attest to that. She covets her. As does one of hubby Joe's favorite nieces, Jeanne Hayes. A former foster pup, she is now a full-fledged member of our family. And our dear 108-pound golden retriever "Burley" loves her too, and protects her when they are outdoors. So sweet.
NEWS FROM THE ROCK
Rocky Hill Baptist Church had Dr. Oliver "Butch" Skerrett as its visiting pastor this past Sunday, while Pastor Dr. Leland Holland and his wife Deb attended a Baptist Preacher's convention and their family in Indiana. While the cat's away the mice will play is a saying of old, however, playing this week was young Robbie on the violin. It sounded beautiful.
Butch's sermon was taken from Luke 15. Sometime during the sermon I heard him mention something I did not know: that when fishing with worms you had to always keep the pointed hook covered with the worm or the fish will see it was a hook and not go after it. It was a good illustration that went well with a good message.
Singing the special was Lenoir Bishop, who sang "Going Home", one of his dad's favorites, as it was Father's Day. Hope everyone had a fabulous day.
At 97 Butch's mother, Ruby Skerrett, is the oldest member of Rocky Hill. She is a resident of Tore's Home on Galimore Road in Brevard. Special music is planned there on June 28th at 2pm to honor her. Everyone is invited.
At RHBC VBS the students and teachers will take a journey off the map into uncharted waters and uncharted lands July 12 - 16. Each evening from 6:30 until 8:30, we will explore and enjoy small group Bible study, craft and music activities, recreational games and delicious snacks. Please come on this journey with us!
NEW GET WELL WISHES
Joe Van Hook had three fusions to his lower back and is home now recuperating. It will be a long hard road, so please keep his wife Jane in prayer too.
On Monday of this week dear Becky McDaris was to have a total knee replacement, in Asheville. She has needed this a long time now, and we wish her a speedy recovery.
CORRECTION:
Last week I mentioned Jane Jones was visiting here, from New York. I learned her name is Jane Elliott (Mrs. Jim Elliott) and is from Pennsylvania. I just can't keep up with all the Bishops. Jane is the sister of Marty Bishop of Cedar Mountain.
Mary mentioned that Jane and Jim Elliott will celebrate a wedding anniversary in a couple weeks.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY BROTHER-IN-LAW
Though I listed the June birthdays earlier this month I want to wish my "favorite brother-in-law" Doug Pace a very Happy Birthday this week. He is hubby Joe's baby brother, making him a young 77 as of June 22nd.

Brevard Recycle
In case you haven’t heard, Brevard Recycle is a website where you can place free ads. (Just Google “Brevard Recycle”.) Everything has to be free however. Folks offer everything from books to beds to scrap lumber and more. You can also place want ads.
I answered a want ad recently from a young mother who was building a perennial garden and would come and dig them.
My Hostas have been multiplying like crazy from seed and I really didn’t want to pull the little guys out like weeds. This was the answer.
Sarah and her delightful family came last Friday and rescued most of the little Hostas. They were also thrilled to take home a whole batch of little Oak Trees which I wholeheartedly encouraged.

I also answered an ad a few months ago for old beat-up furniture. I met the young lady in Brevard with a chair, broken Demilune table and an old crate. She was happy to get them and said she would be refinishing them with the hope to sell. I would love to see what she did with them.
