CEDAR MOUNTAIN COMMUNITY CENTER

The first Potluck Dinner will be Monday, June 14th. Food and table set-ups, among other protocols, will be used. The most recent NC COVID guidelines allow groups of up to 100 people. Food needs to be on the serving tables by 6:15 pm, dinner starts at 6:30 pm. There will be a presentation by Kent Wilcox starting at 7 pm entitled “What’s the Reason for Reasonover”. Cedar Mountain residents agree that Reasonover Road was named after Reasonover Creek, but the reason for the name of Reasonover Creek is shrouded in folklore about some hermit or law evader who long ago figured out a reason to cross the creek. An extensive search of historical records going back to 1710 has revealed the true origins for the name of Reasonover Creek.

The Annual BBQ will be on Monday, October 11th.

May 17. Results: The game was closest to the pin on number 13. Winner: Eileen Orisak. Low gross: Nancy Waclawek with 34. Low net: Pat Dearbaugh with 24.

AROUND THE HOUSE by Linda Young

I went to Ingles for gas on Tuesday. I couldn’t find my Advantage card (which had enough points to give me 15 cents off per gal) so with the lineup behind me, I only got 5 gallons. I found the Advantage card later and decided to fill it up on the way out of town. They had closed the station when I got there. At least I have enough gas for another trip to town.

I found a great way to cook bacon. I used a large muffin/cupcake pan and spread the full-length pieces across the top of the pan. I got six strips on there. Bake at 400 degrees for 15 minutes or more depending on how crisp you like your bacon. Pour grease into a disposable container, put in frig until hard, and then toss. EZ

We had the occasion to check out the improvements to Creekside Market last weekend. It is quite the showplace now. There is now an inside dining room with a beautiful deck for outside dining overlooking the creek. The area where we used to eat is now filled with local art and collectibles. You can also get kitchen items such as flour, milk, and more.
