CEDAR MOUNTAIN ROTARY CLUB
The Cedar Mountain Rotary Club will be meeting at the Cedar Mountain Community Center 6-12-25.
Sara Landry from the Friends of DuPont will be the speaker. Just as most property owners are working to recover from Hurricane Helene and the recent fire threat, DuPont Forest was also affected. Sara should have information on the progress that has been made. A potluck meal will follow the meeting.
You can contact Cathy Haupert, 607-280-0889, for information.
Faith Memorial Chapel welcomes folks of all denominations to our services, held on Sundays at 11:00 AM. We meet only in the summer and have no membership roll, so you won’t feel like a guest. Each Sunday, we have clergy from different churches that visit us to lead the service and we are blessed to also have great music to accompany the great message!
On June 15th, we welcome The Rev. Dr. Pamela Cole. Rev. Dr. Pamela Patrick Cole is an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church (ECO) and her goal for ministry is to serve Christ and to be conformed to his image.
Music this Sunday will be provided by Wendy Fowler. Wendy Fowler and her husband Robert live in Spartanburg, SC. She is currently the Music Director at Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Moore, SC., and teaches private voice and piano students at Stokes Music Studios in Greer. Earle Oxner earleoxner@me.com
Greetings, Seeoff neighbors and friends.
Happy Summer. Please join us for our June potluck this Sunday, 15 June.
Our program speakers will be Carrie Blair and Marjorie Lillard. Carrie will tell us about mountain landscaping and native plants. Marjorie Lillard is president of the TC Historical Society and will speak to efforts to remove non-native plant life at Allison Deaver House.
Bring a friend and bring your dish at 5:30 pm and we’ll socialize for a bit before eating at 6:00 pm. Robin McCain, Lesin Dippold, and Charlie & Michelle Hullihan are our hosts for this potluck (thanks, folks). Bring your own plates & utensils if you are of a mind to do so – it reduces our contributions to the landfill.
CEDAR MT COMMUNITY CENTER
We had a great program Tuesday evening following the potluck Tuesday night.
The program presented by Savanah (Rye) Stone from Land of Sky concerned the many spam messages, texts and annoying phone calls from unwanted callers that we all get. Have you ever felt uncertain or unsafe about using the internet? Ever wonder if a text or an email is a scam? You're not alone! Using technology comes with encountering scams and we want to talk about how to identify them and know when it is safe to give out your information. Savanah (Rye) Stone from Land of Sky gave a short presentation on how to catch a scam and what to do if you suspect you have been scammed. Many attendees related their experiences with scams of all descriptions. Most annoying being those pushing so-called Medicare information. Others included a fake relative asking for money because they are in trouble. One mentioned getting a call for money from a “Grandson”. He was asked what his birthday was and couldn’t answer. Asking questions that an actual relative could answer ends the call. That is just one example of the complaints voiced by many. Savannah pointed out many ways to spot a scam or fraud. Misspelled words on emails and texts were a dead give away. Many tips and ways to spot a scam were shared and appreciated. Be very wary of suspicious emails and any other forms of communication even when they seem legit.
