CHRISTINE’S CORNER:

This has been the busiest winter for me in several years! I could give many excuses for my lapse in some areas; MRI & doctor visits for me, while continuing to work at a busy local tax office, coordinating a washing machine repairman, spending half a day at a car dealership having all 4 brakes replaced, babysitting a night or two, visiting 2 close friends on their final days on earth, church (I missed 2 evenings of choir practice), and more! But I don’t like “excuses” when in actuality it was my fault that I missed a name on my February birthday listing. Instead, Linda Young was kind enough to put out a “Blast” online on Nextdoor Neighbor. It got over 900 views in just a few days! Still, I want to publicly announce that a dear lady, Judith Patrick, celebrated her birthday on February 10th. Happy belated birthday Judy!

Did I miss your birthday or anniversary or do you have a celebration coming up in March? If so, please email me the particulars at chris_p_artist@yahoo.com.

VALENTINES DAY

Tuesday February 14th was Valentines Day. Beth Owings was born on Valentine’s Day. I didn’t forget her in the list earlier this month. Candy Gray’s great-grandson Rhett celebrated his 1st birthday on the 14th as well. How did I celebrate this special day? I took my one-year-old Pomeranian to Asheville to be neutered. Little “Rockefeller” didn’t have a clue. “Picture”

GOING WITH WHAT YOU GOT

Pardon my English. In preparing for the early morning drive to the ASPCA for my pup’s neutering appointment I gathered everything I’d need the night before. At the same time, my curtain tie-back on the sliding glass doors leading to the back deck broke. In a hurry, I grabbed a clean male-dog wrap and attached it via the handy Velcro, around my curtain. It worked great!

MEMORIAL SERVICE

The Memorial service for Mabry Harris will be held at the Wesleyan church across from Ingles in Brevard on February 25th at 2pm. Mabry opened the Harris ACE Hardware store on Main Street Brevard 50 years ago. His son, Jimmy Harris, is owner now, and served as Brevard’s Mayor for 22 years. They are a family of giving & caring neighbors.

WINTER WEATHER

We were warned last week that we may get snow this past Sunday. Rain was plentiful, though luckily the temperature didn’t dip below freezing long enough to cause any great hardship. Did you see snow on your street? Winter’s not over yet! Spring is just over 30 day’s away: March 20th.

AROUND THE HOUSE by Linda Packer Young

I am happy to report that, except for a pesky cough, my honey is finally recovering from the RSV. He’s not a “ball of fire” yet, but getting there. He was able (and proud) to have assembled a large new storage rack in the basement that will accommodate Christmas décor and more of his “stuff”. The basement has been a mess since he moved in. It’s gradually being incorporated, but many items still need a home. Hopefully, this rack will alleviate a lot of that.

We are making final plans for our Florida trip at the end of the month. Our motor home (Infirmary) needed some work and it required an extreme effort to find a place that could do the needed repairs. My honey finally found a place in Marian, NC who could do the work. They did a great job and the Infirmary is all better now.

I thought I’d surprise my honey with a, just after midnight, Valentine’s surprise. I put a small heart-shaped box of chocolates and a card on the coffee table when he left the room. When he came back he was surprised and thrilled but I could see something in his eyes that meant something was up. I had beaten him to the punch. He soon disappeared outside and came back burdened with boxes of candy, a cake, and a big bouquet of flowers that he had left in the car. He had hoped I would go to bed at 11:30 pm so he could sneak out, get his gifts in secret, and hopefully surprise me in the morning. I’m a little sorry I ruined his surprise.
